Well it was time to bite the bullet and become a CS.
After scanning the net, the best info is right here on Coffee Snobs.
For many years have been drinking what I thought was coffee, drip, perk, stove top etc etc; Then the penny dropped, for real coffee one needs a real machine so of to the local electrical retailer for the latest and greatest, a new EM6910 and EM0480 at last real coffee (better), that lasted a month, isnt Ebay wonderful !!
Room for more improvement
Now I have a new Mazzer Mini and soon (very soon) Chris are you reading this?) a new pimped Giotto.
The forums on CS have helped immensely with my choice of equipment and the assistance of Chris Natoli at Talk Coffee is very much appreciated.
Im Meg, ive been sadly drinking instant coffee at home forever. Love to have a good coffee out. and could definitely tell a good from a bad. boy some of those baristas can screw up a cup or 2. very dissappointing. Just clicked recently and decided to take the plunge. Pretty clueless about the whole process but am hoping my soon to be delivered Silvia and Iberital Challenge will inspire me. Pleased to have a barista as a friend who will show me the ropes.
Other addictions/ causes include the environment, cloth nappies and the acquisition of knowledge. lol.
Hello I am really Jason but unfortunately chose a goofy name. I am currently having a "week off" helping my missus with the bubba and more idle time than usual so able to join this forum.
A new coffee snob; I was pramming around Fox Studios today and almost didnt partake in a coffee because no cafe looks good enough any more. Robert Timms beans, the 16 year old Barista at one of the outlets looked sus, finally settled at a place which served a very weak flat white in a paper cup , blyak! Went home disgusted, and loaded up the Presso to assure myself that I should forget about going out for coffee unless it is only for a caffeine fix, or a shout, to do a business deal or something.
The list below will attest that i am a pretty low tech user, partly because of the relatively low volumes of coffee that are consumed at this household. Got a popper on the weekend and a starter kit. I am also now the proud owner of a milk thermometer
So far my brew has a slight burnt, perhaps overinfused aftertaste that I am trying to eliminate through trial and error. I have a minor headcold at the moment that may be affecting my pallet... dunno
Thanks for the information to date, and making me a holier than thou coffee drinker

Welcome Jason,
If you havent already, you could start a new thread for this problem under the category "Brewing Equipment (non-machine specific)" further on down the page and Im sure plenty of willing CSers will do their best to help you out. All the best,
Yes well you did ask, I am new. I have recently turned my attention to coffee in its various forms and am a sponge for information particularly regarding the various tastes that I have yet to try. (That is pretty much all of them). Any hoo, hope to pick all of your brains in turn.
Hi this is Jason. I am a newbie (only 2 posts!). Looking to futher horizons in the world of coffee and coffee making. All tips and tricks warmly welcomed. Waiting on new machine (Sunbeam EM6910) as my Breville 800ES has gone to coffee machine heaven. If anyone has an EM6910 an would like to share experiences, please do. Very much a novice so all advice welcome.
Like Jayan I got a bit ahead of myself and posted elsewhere before finding this introduction thread and thanking everyone for the great forum.
I have a beginners forum etiquette question. If I have a question about hardware, for example my new Iberital grinder, should I look for a thread that is closely related - such as BenandFaiths excellent review thread from a month ago - and post on that?
I assume it is better to try to keep subjects sort of together.
Thanks for any advice ... I have been drinking coffee for a long time but the learning curve on making my own good espresso is a steep one!
