  • Re: Hi! Im new here. Go easy on me!

Hi, I am new and decided to jump in. Only discovered this site about 2 weeks ago and already i have learnt a lot.
Initially, i was researching the Eurolab unit...thankfully i was led here and away from that unit.
i now realise that i would be better investing in a decent grinder (probably Emide Electric Grinder or Sunbeam 480). i currently use the plunger and stovetop and am waiting for the aeroPress to arrive. Then maybe, when i have learnt to appreciate my coffee more, look at the breville ikon or something similar...
anyway, that is a little about myself...thanks for such a wonderful site and providing invaluable information to people like myself who want to learn more about appreciating coffee and investing wisely in equipment. really gald i found cs ... i have tried posting in the grinder section, without much success, if anyone can assist with how to to get the most help...
looking forward to my time here...

Hi Janine, welcome to CS, you will find all of the support and information you seek on this sight and before long you will be hopelessly hooked on the little brown bean like the rest of us!!
Speaking of grinders, it is the most essential tool you will need to produce a good espresso. Starting point would be a Sunbeam EM450/480 for about $120-180, this is a good little grinder and will give good service, there is plenty of info on grinders in the archives.
Good luck with your research and your coffee journey.........hope to see more of your posts............................................. ..
      cheers

thanks very much for the friendly welcome. i almost had a gaggia coffee machine but it got away...
i have been looking for a Sunbeam 480, but they seem to be sold out everywhere i went (5 shops)
i would have got a good price on a Krupp but from what i have read i think i am better to stick with the 480....
by the way, what is the best way to store coffee (ground until i get this grinder)!!!!
...i thought it was to be kept in the fridge, then i thought people on cs were saying the opposite...then in one of the stores i went today they actually had a sign up of coffee hints and one was store in the fridge in sealed container...so i guess it would be good to set it straight for me...
        fridge or not fridge....
so again, any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
        thanks

          NOT fridge.

          Moisture is a no no.
Somewhere dry and dark is best.
          Airtight as well.
One way valved bags are good because you can squeeze the air out.

If you get it ground for you it should come in a valved bag.

            And cool too....

Welcome to CoffeeSnobs from me too Janine..... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Dont know that I would opt for the Emide grinder though. Its a great little grinder for what it is but to be realistic, Id reckon the Sunbeam EMO-480/450 units would be the minimum grinder to aim for, having the capability to do a good job for espresso when you get around to acquiring a machine.

If possible though, Id try to aim a bit higher and go for an Iberital Challenge grinder as these are very capable little espresso grinders that come in at around, or just under, the $300 mark. Well worth it though, seeing as how the grinder is the single most important piece of coffee making hardware you can own.

Anyway, all the best and if you dont mind doing a little bit more research on the subject, theres a lot of info about some of the grinders available in Australia right here....

            Cheers ,
            Mal.

And me is the son of Viviane!

You know, the old lady who tends to mention me occasionally :P Such as when there was the topic on silly things your kids have done. I beleive i was reported to have yelled at the driver infront of mums car, whailing out "Eesus christ ooo bozoe" or somehting along those lines!

P.S. if you havent notice, i like to make an entrance :P

uhhh... how about knowing a little more about coffee than the average 16 yo, due to have an obsessed mum :P

its an odd thing aswell, cause i like to point out flaws in cafes microfome to freidns, and they give me odd looks ):

                            Welcome to CS ABM,

The Silvia and Rocky combo is a great way to start.  I have not personally owned these machines, but it is the weapon of choice for many CoffeeSnobs.

I am sure you will have loads of fun in the quest of pulling the God shot and with the equipment you have you shouldnt be too far away from it.

You do realise that in 6 months time you will be hit with the nasty bug called Upgraditis.

Have fun and lots of caffiene.  Enjoy

                              Hi Alex,
                              congrats on your purchase,
I have been using silvia+iberital for about 1.5 months now, and the coffee experience has been very good and there are plenty of tips available on this forum as well as in youtube.
and I am telling you whenever I go out to a cafe I only order juice or a cup of tea

Rook i know how you feel, i gave my friends lectures on their dodgey coffee and then they just look at me and wonder what i just explained to them. plus i tell them if they want a great coffee they need to go to the right places. but they are happy with just the crap coffee they can get. they just dont get it.
