You can read in the how I became a coffee snob thread how I came to be here ... thatll tell you a couple of things about me too !!!

The other stuff ... Im a keen surfer which is where my username comes from, so now you also know what I look like!

Married with a young daughter ... who loves going to get a coffee with Dad. From a very early age she has been heading to the coffee shop with me of a morning while Mum sleeps, and she gets a coffee with Dad (baby cino for those conerned I might be pumping my kid full of caffeine). She happily sits up at the table and drinks her coffee while we discuss things (usually what we can see ... being the surf or water) and watch the world go by ... GREAT daddy daughter time. PLUS added bonus of browny point with Mum cause she got to sleep in !!!

Im a newbie, but hey we all start somewhere, and if you dont try youll never know ...

        Hello guys!

Obviously I am new here and this is my first post!

        Been reading around here for a while, so I thought I better introduce myself and tell you my set up;

I have a Breville BES820 espresso machine. (Yes I am aware of this machines issues :P It was recomended to me by a friend so I just bought is without too much thinking. When I couldnt get very good coffee out of it I arrived here..... )

Im using Krups and Breville non-pressurised filter baskets.

I have a Rancilio Rocky grinder with the Click-Clack lid mod.

And I have a generic 51mm stainless steel tamper. (Which I believe is my biggest problem at this stage!).

I am using beans from a local roaster, but I am keen to hear any suggestions for beans from the beanbay....especially what beans might be good for flat whites (mainly all I drink).

Well glad I finally posted to say hello, and throw my setup into the open for suggestions on improvement!
Thanks for all your help so far guys, this site is amazing.

        Cheers,
        Ben.

              Hi CoffeeSnobs all,
Not my first post, but my first notice of this topic/thread.
Love the site. Spent many an evening reading about wonderful coffee and machines, dreaming of the day id be able to start using a proper machine. Then lo and behold, two days ago my Kru/aps espresso machine died, and now im my other half cant be too upset when i buy a real machine and grinder.
And, thanks to all my reading of the site, i already know for my price range the rocky silvia combo is probably best.
              Cant wait to start learning!
              Thanks,
              Cyrilgoldenrock.

                  hi all,

thought it about time I introduce myself. Hi. I joined a month or two ago and started reading, so many hints and tips in this forum, well done to all. Ive only been drinking espresso for a couple of years now and of late, Ive been on the hunt for great coffee.

                  My equipment list consists of:

                  Breville 800
                  Sunbeam EM0480
(both bought before I found this forum)
                  and a non pressurized basket

I drink latte or long black in the morning followed by espresso in the afternoon. My latte art skills are at entry level at best but on the improve thanks to you.

My current plan is to try and extract better coffee from the Breville and then buy a new machine early next year.

                  thanks again

Hi,have recently ditched the automatic Saeco in favour of the rocky/sylvia combo and so glad I did First post by the way, this is a great site and a mine of information,Am green as coffee beans when it comes to making, tamping, frothing etc.I did not realise the extent of knowledge and detail that comes with simply making a cup of coffee.Having said that it was amazing what a difference in taste between sylvia and saeco, sylvia won hands down, and still am a beginner on the machine.Got bored with home brewing,so decided to concentrate on coffee, wow this is a whole new world
                      Cheers Terry

Ups, this is my 2nd post! Posted the 1st one without realising this thread exist <G>

After gone through one coffee machine every year now decided to get a longer lasting coffee machine. Miss Silvia will be arrived tomorrow! Yeah!!

ETA: I am a cappuccino kinda gal, my current Krups doing ok for the brewing but frothing is shocking hence the need to up-grade.

                            Welcome Sofia...... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Once you get hold of Silvia and get her dialled in, I think youll be amazed by the improvement in espresso quality. Do you have a good grinder to match with Miss Silvia, and a source of high quality, freshly roasted beans to feed her with? Gotta keep the quality up to her you know....

                            Cheers,
                            Mal.

Thanks for the warm welcome Mal and KK. The plan is to stick with my current grinder for now, but will be at the Coffee show on Sunday, see what happen <G>

My Silvia is coming with some coffee beans from Jetblack Espresso where I bought my machine, still playing with the brewing bit as no matter what I do, I just cant get the right combination. *sigh.. * I am reading Silvia brewing issue threads.
