        hi vasanna,

welcome to cs!  flynnaus machine should you do very nicely to begin with
do you have a decent grinder to match it?  as you will have read, the grinder is a limiting factor in all attempts at great coffee.

        enjoy the ride,

hi sd i think i have posted my thread in wrong place sorry new to forums too.
as yet still looking for grinder.
i will keep researching this site and gaining helpful insights until i can find the extra money from my home budget, i will have too stick with preground ( i know yuck ,your all so passionate about the fresh ground) and i agree much better .

at work we have rio coffee preground  sidamo so i purchase that through the boss at moment while my old clunker sunbeam club capp chuggs away ( NO laughing). LOL .just so i can have my morning coffee at 6am and then go to work and have another a 10.30 am.
by the way what would be your recommendation on a entry level grinder. any suggestions!
hopefully that will change soon and i can really enjoy making a better coffee.
          thanks for the welcome.
if the moderators feel the need to move my post to a more appropriate forms no probs i wont be upset.
          thank again for the welcome.

            Hi Ladies and Gents,

An avid coffee fiend at my work handed me his stand-by home roaster with a few kilos of beans some months ago and said "Try this". Im happy to say Im well and truly converted to a good cup.

I was put onto this sight by the aforementioned fiend, I signed up the day before last weeks green bean sale went down.... walked away with 22.5Kg of greenery.

Thanks to the guys at CS for saving me money on postage and including more beans - that was fantastic.

I work for Miele and therefore have ended up with a CVA620.. Opted for it as I can put my own beans into it (not like the horrible nespresso capsule system), its easy to clean and easier to use (Id no doubt break a manual machine) and has been changed slightly to produce appropriate grind - brilliant end result.

Latest roast was the Nicaragua Ramacafe Fine Estate - After roasting, it doesnt even smell like coffee. It smells like flowers mixed with a hot receptionist wearing glasses and a short skirt.

            ..... I may be a little inappropriate - but I know what I like.

                  Hi guys,
I am new here...just getting into coffee since i have been working as barista a year ago. Originally i am from Indonesia but moved to Australia, Sydney then Melbourne. I am happy to see that some places sell Indonesian coffee (Mandheling ie from Maindailing, Balinese coffee and Sulawesi).

Hi, I am a very green bean and such a novice, its frightening. During repairs to my Sunbeam 6900 twin thermoblock, my husband got a little heavy handed and managed to screw the head off the nut inside the boiler - oops and so my search for a new machine began and boy was I out of my depth.

I read all your post, cross checked and searched some more. Finally, I thought I was ready to splurge and I had the Isomac Millenium firmly in my sights, but as I was getting in the car a friend rang and somehow I ended up driving in the opposite direction and purchased a Giotto Rocket and WOW, she is lovely.

I dont really know what I am doing though. I have a Sunbeam grinder that I got with the 6900, as I couldnt splurge on a newbie, so my first question is, is this an ok grinder? or should I be asking Santa to start filling his sack?

My tamper is the one that came with the 6900, should I also upgrade that?

My problem seems to be that over the weekend, I tried and tried to make espresso after espresso and seemed to strike out more than succeed - I am heart broken thinking that I have out stepped my coffee making abilities. Ive changed the grind, up down and back again. Some extractions too fast others slow, none right where I want them.

I have found the puck mostly to be wet on the very surface and am unsure if this is the machine or if this is ok. The puck when taken out, is solid and dry, so I dont know what I am doing wrong or is this normal?? Ive tried adding more coffee to the next one Ive tried changing my tamp, so should I be attending a coffee making course??

Then of course, there is the milk texturing, but I will keep practising this one and I have devoted many hours to reading your posts and watching YouTube. Can anyone tell me a good milk I live in Sydney and like low fat?

Anyway, thanks for listening. Ive just ordered some beans and hope that might eleviate some of the problems Ive been having, but I look forward to hearing from you soon. TB :-)

PS: The Giotto is a BEAUTIFUL machine and I hope to do her justice soon

You need to start by looking and reading in the thread... http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?board=BrewPointy

In the first instance, I would suggest the Grinder (you do not identify)  may not be doing you justice and depending on your tamp method etc the standard EM6900 may add to your problems...  Further more, if you were  not using the standard baskets and fresh beans with the EM6900; then you will have to revisit some of your methods and understandings on making coffee...

Welcome to CS and expect to see you in the http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?board=BrewPointy threads... Plenty of users of this machine there/

                        Hi TB.

Like AM said, your grinder is probably letting you down.
                        What model is it?

Thanks for your help. The grinder I have is the Cafe Series burr grinder from Sunbeam. Since posting my first post, I seem to be getting worse. I watched a video on tamping and that you should be able to turn the grouphead upside down before brewing and the grounds should not fall out - mine fall out with a vengence. I usually grind somewhere between 5-8 if that tells you anything.

I look forward to checking out your recommendations. TB
