Tidings and good wishes to all those who dwell within this forum!

Ive snooped around this forum on occasion and have found much of the info very informative. But all the info also points to the awful gear I have for making coffee. This angers and infuriates!

So what does one do? Start the horrible and expensive path of upgrading. Just what I need, a 2nd expensive hobby (first one being DSLRs)

So what have I got and whats the game plan going forward?

Got - Sunbeam EM3800 - Stock except porta-filter plastic insert dooby removed
Got - Preground from the supermarket coffee - great success!
Got - Liquid descaler - just did the lengthly cleaning process before posting this

ordered and on the way - Breville unpressurised double shot basket, couldnt find a krups basket, but from the pictures, these look identical.

      planned - Sunbeam EM0450 OR EM0480
planned - a visit to one drop coffee (QLD), i work just down the road
planned - if i like the brew at one drop, ill check out cleanskin coffee co. Funnily enough, my girlfriends parents run the shop at the front of the industrial complex that theyre situated. Never new they were there!
planned - a tamp of not plastic origin

Searching furiously for - milk thermometer! Why can i never find one when i look for one! Why do you always say "Sorry, we just sold out." Why must you elude me!

Down the track - machine upgrade, still considering, so many choices! Was thinking of the Gaggia Classic, but maybe ill dish out a bit more.

So thats the plan. Next stop, coffee nirvana.

And although im currently using stale preground, I at least can make a better flat white than most of the cafes ive been too. And from what many of the comments ive seen on the forum so far, not many of you are surprised at the amount of awful swill that goes on sale every day. If you find a good cafe, stick to it and tell others!

      See you all around

Just make sure in the history drop down box you change from 1 week. That is the default (which is ok, but you probably need to change it).
what "history drop down" button?? right hand side or left hand side of the screen?

Must dig up the photography thread...there are a few of us here as obsessive with our photography as our coffee, amongst other things...we talk about that stuff in the Off Topic forum...

Welcome btw...to all of you who have bothered to post an intro! It is great to read ALL of your stories and hear that we are in some way, contributing to your journey. It is truly great! And we all know...we were ALL newbies once! But only once!

Hi All - been lurking for a while. thought id actually sign up and say Hi.

Newbie here - been making (bad) espresso for a few years ago - my blade grinder died 3 months back so I started researching and realised how much I didnt know.

Gear - currently have a Sunbeam EM0480 grinder and a Breville machine (cant remember model and doing this from work)

Kiwi (waikato) as well - not sure how many of us there are here.

                    Cheers all
                    Andrew

Probably capable of making good coffee but the other important question is what coffee beans are you buying?

Hi I am looking to get a Rancilio Silvia in the next few weeks. I havent decided on a retailer yet. One thing that has caught my eye is the whole temp surfing idea. As sush I like the idea of a "Gronked" setup . I would like to know more about the technique that is best used with this setup. Where is the best place to look any hints ???

Gronk has a special place in CS in that if you type the name Gronk or the word gronking the auto-correct  feature links the word to the very thread you seek.
Gronked works too without the quotation marks.

Click on any of the links above.
