For what its worth even the mention the word pods   is considered to be blasphemy on this forum.

            Hey guys!

I found this website whilst googling for information on the new Slayer machines and there was a thread on here talking about it. As soon as i stumbled across this forum i thought to myself that this is the place to be for talking about coffee, equipment, other peoples preferences, information about finding great cafes/espresso bars. So yeah, here i am! And i love it.

Im living in Brisbane and Ive got my own little coffee shop on the corner of Elizibeth Street and George street named "The Frisky Goat" and Im using Expo Bar G10s and Mazzer Grinders.

I appologise if this is frowned upon! (advertising). I just thought Id let you know my role in the Brisbane coffee scene!

            Thanks, Joel.

                Gday Joel, welcome.
Not much chance of me walking through your door unless you open in Adelaide.

                        • Greetings!

                          Hey all,

Well this is my first post and I thought I would say a quick hi.

Im new to the whole home-coffee thing. Im a big fan of espressos, and recently was introduced to the world of home-roasting thanks to PeterF who frequents this site (not sure of username). Went out and bought a Sunbeam Cornelius which has done well so far - thanks to advice found on this forum.

So a few batches under my belt so far, using the starter pack. Varied results. By chance my first roast was excellent! Then I got a bit lazy and started roasting based on colour not sound (ie matching a commercial blend I had a sample of...a mistake I think!) which led to OK results but not the same sort of quality as my first Peru Ceja de Selva Estate roast which was awesome to say the least - even at a day old.

So much experimentation to do with different beans, picking the perfect time to stop roasting, how long the roast should sit before being used etc. So much to learn! But its all good.

I have been using my parents machine and frequenting cafes (including ones who know me well and were nice enough to trial my beans for in coffees for me!) until now.  My parents have a Saeco Professional fully auto jobby. I finallly decided I may as well get my own, so have been doing the research into machines - its pretty complex! Im looking at a manual or semi-auto machine with an E61 group, mainly focussed on espressos which is all I drink, but milk-capable just in case.

Was sort of tempted by the full auto experience, but stuff it, I feel like going the harder route and having a steep learning curve while trying to seek espresso perfection!

Anyway, just a quick hi to you all, and look forward to learning more from you - thanks for all your help so far, even if you didnt know you had provided it!

Now, back to reading another review of the Rocket Espresso Giotto Evoluzione which is one of the top contenders I am looking at so far. Ill save the questions about that one for the correct forum.

Thanks for the advice so far, and Im sure we will get to chat as I get into this more.

                          Richard

I thought I should officially say hello.

Ive been hanging around for a couple of months now...

...hard to believe how it all happened really...

...my mum bought a little Breville something or other and I looked at it and thought "Pah! Thats not gadgety enough for me"... ;D

...which led to my looking at Choice magazine reviews of espresso machines...

...which led to me doing a google search for a Sunbeam EM5600... :-?

...which led me to CoffeeSnobs... : ...and THE GOSPEL of freshly roasted beans, freshly ground...

...and now, a few months later, look at my signature!  Thankfully my wife is now addicted to a morning flat white and has insisted that this fad not end...

...and thankfully the credit card bill comes to my e-mail address, not the post box!

...thanks to the sponsors who have helped out in my espresso journey...especially Greg Pullman, Ofra & Renzo at Di Bartoli, Attilio at Cosmorex and Allison at Presso...

                                Cheers  ;D
