        Hi everyone,

Im pretty new to the world of coffee and have recently purchased myself the Gaggia Espresso Pure machine. I enjoy coffees mostly in the form of a latte.

Since ive had the machine ive been able to put a latte together but i do feel that all-in-all its lacking as my home-made coffees just dont seem to get near the coffees i sometimes buy on the way in to work.

Now aside from the obvious differences in the quality of my machine to that which might be found in a commercial cafe, does anyone have any insight into how i can make my espressos better at home....i.e. when i create my espresso shot i lack any of the crema one would expect from a well put together espresso. Instead, i get a tar-like shot with no real crema that seems to rush to get out of the machine - it appears that there is no control over the speed in which the espresso shot is dispersed. Ive tried different tamping techniques that focus on how hard i pack the ground coffee in the holder.

I am currently using ground Vittoria espresso 100% arabica coffee for my shots as i do not have a grinder.

Anyone got any tips.....specifically for the use of my machine?

Id really like to get some more out of my machine and right now it feels like im stuck on a level....

Looking forward to hearing from all you coffee-lovers!!

        Dan

Welcome and get ready for an interesting ride and journey down teh coffee road.

Update your profile to include a location..

The best tip any of us can provide will be to dump the stale supermarket beans..

If there is a Sponsor close by, OR a good local roaster... Get 250 gram of fresh roasted beans and even if they have to grind for you...

It will improve your coffee by 120%.

Roasted beans are good for about 3 weeks post roast, but once you grind them... You have about 3min for ideal use. A couple of hrs and unless stored carefully as good as supermarket beans.

For good coffee the following is teh approx order of importance/

          Fresh Beans
          Good grinder
          User with some skills
          Machine

Yep.. The machine is the least important of teh lot..

          FRESH beans every time.

Let us know how you go...

            Hi All,

Ive been reading this forum for a while and finally joined today. I enjoy reading and watching anything coffee related online especially reviews.

Recently our Jura s95 sprung a leak and weve decided its time for it to move on after 10 years, were currently using a stove top.

After a lot of reading, viewing and in-store demos Ive decided to purchase the Rocket Giotto in the very near future.

Here goes with my first post.  :-[

              Hello All,

I have been studying this site for a while and have recently upgraded my coffee kit.  For about 8 years I was enjoying my Saeco Magic Deluxe fully auto machine, but always felt I could do more and better.  The boiler died for the second time. Repair did not seem worthwhile and so after research here and on the web and advice from the shop I bought my Rocket Giotto.  I have modified my grinder as advised here to enable the finer grind for a 25 sec shot.  And today I have made my first few shots of Espresso Wow that arrived late this week.  8-)

Thanks to all at this web site who have indirectly helped me get this far.  I am enjoying the journey.

Hi there Im a complete and utter newbie to the forum, just discovered it tonight and also to machines and great coffee.

I dont drink a lot of coffee but what I do drink I like to be good, what is good, Im yet to discover. Im also interested in buying a good machine for home use that wont get a huge amount of use, maybe once a day but that will still produce a great coffee.

Well Im off to see where I need to go in the Hunter Valley and what I need to buy

                      Hello and welcome to Coffeesnobs
Good to know you appreciate good coffee and the discovery has begun.
Most of us will suggest that the freshness of the coffee followed by the grinder is more important than the machine itself.
See if theres a local coffee roaster or a cafe nearby that sells good fresh beans, then grind it yourself as you require.
On this site, there is Beanbay where you can purchase brown and green beans and they are very good.
You can also check the sponsors on the left side. Theres a number of them in Sydney and they can ship to you.
As for grinders and machines, select a reputable outlet. Their passion and willingness to help makes choosing a bit easier.
Select your budget, and good luck on your journey.

Thanks kotaro, Ill go and have a look.

scary I didnt think he actually had a shop as such, mmmm dont worry a little blonde here, I went onto his website and didnt look at the actual address on here

I spoke to my budget   and I dont think Ill be able to go down the path I want.  Im not sure where to go from here, I dont think Im a coffeesnob when your budget only allows for around $1000 at present.

Im laughing at myself thinking that I could get something half decent when compared to the $300 crappy machines LMAO

I wonder if you can get a good cup out of a plunger  ;D ;D ;D I would love to try the Guatemala Huehuetenango La Esperanza Pacamara that I saw on a website.
