Second here you can get a good cup from a plunger.
Its like i said before, good fresh quality beans and a good grinder, and you,re mostly there already.
Perhaps start off one stage at a time.
Just start with the plunger or get an Aeropress and enjoy your coffee at this point in time. If you need a half decent machine, then you need a reliable one and with good after sales support especially when you live in the Hunter Valley and everything else is far away.
Dont let your brain explode. I wouldnt suggest it if you want to continue a life of great coffee discovery.
PS, if its too hard, keep it simple. Fresh coffee beans, good grinder, and plunger.
Thank you so much guys for making me not feel so stupid, I think that is what I will do, the KISS method so to speak. Ive been reading about the drippers, Im not a drink and run person, when I drink coffee I like to drink it not slam it down LOL so the waiting is no problem

I spoke to my budgetWink and I dont think Ill be able to go down the path I want.Im not sure where to go from here, I dont think Im a coffeesnob when your budget only allows for around $1000 at present.
Hello again shapeshifter,
You can consider yourself a coffeesnob by name but not by nature. Theres no such thing as a stupid question here and theres certainly no need to be feel stupid. We all had to start somewhere, i certainly was in your position when i started out and got away from instant coffee. That was the biggest step, drinking instant all those years and discovering better and new around us.
You dont need to have a $2000 plus machine or grinder to be one. Can be a coffeesnob if you only have a plunger and you are happy doing so, as long as you enjoy good coffee and do know the difference between good and bad coffee.
This post goes to anyone else out there to show there are coffee lovers from all walks of life and different budgets, wants and needs. We all here share a common interest, and that,s simply to enjoy good coffee, no matter who you are.

scary I didnt think he actually had a shop as such.
Ah, its been quite a while since I was up there :-[
Mmmm ok went for a drive and yep there is a shop there, the really really stupid thing is that we regularly get chinese from 2 doors down. Hows that for not seeing things until you need them ;D
Thanks Gary, Im now on the hunt for a great plunger, beans and grinder
Hi Im new the the CS forums. Just upgraded from a sunbeam 6900 and grinder to a diamond italia (E61 lever)with same sunbeam grinder. Problem is ... Ive got a sloppy puck! Im grinding much finer than I did with the old sunbeam and tamping a fair bit lighter than the sunbeam. I have had one decently stable puck it it didnt have any signs of channeling and broke up nicely and came away from the basket with out leaving much behind but Im guessing that was a lucky shot as I havent reproduced it. Got the machine 3/7 ago and restricted to only a couple of cups a day so the family can handle me

Welcome "nthpara04".... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Ordinarily, you would get this sort of help from your vendor but failing that, theres a great series of How-To videos available at the ECA website here.... http://www.espressocompany.com.au/how-to.htm Should help you get things sorted out....
I found CS recently googling reviews for home espresso machines. It has completely changed my direction. At first wife & I thinking a superauto, but I have not been convinced to spend without knowledge of the end result.
While café coffeeing around town, it became obvious even the café’s with reputation rarely deliver consistency. Good barristers and bad ones. Good one’s have bad days. I don’t expect my own efforts will be any different. At least more often than not, I hope I’ll be able to learn to produce a good one. So I’ll be visiting a few sponsors to explore my coffee future.
Gday GadgetMan, Welcome to CS
youre embarking on an exciting albeit consuming journey ;D
Goodluck with your purchase, theres plenty of sponsers in melbourne that are all too willing to help
soon youll be putting together a Corretto or KKTO, roasting your own greens and feeling the grip of upgradeitis :
