after a few posts I found out the forum does have an introduce myself section so here I am :
Im Italian and my hometown is near Milano; now for a few years I will be working and living in China in the nice city of Xiamen on an island facing Taiwan.
After few months in China I started missing my Italian breakfast with cappuccino and espresso ...and going out in the morning with 35deg C wearing suit and tie looking for a coffee-shop was too much of a pain for me
so I decided to look for an espresso machine, an entry level to bring to China on my first trip to Italy...but I made the mistake to run into this forums and then I decided to buy an Expobar Leva and an Hey Cafe 64mm grinder from two Chinese sellers, and I must say it was a very good experience !
I have already adjusted brew pressure to 9/9.5 bar, got a stainless steel flat tamper, milk jugs, timer, surge protector ...and found Italian coffee beans and Im enjoying good coffee shots

Nice meeting you all
Welcome to Coffeesnobs Ale, great to see you can now get a decent coffee on your new equipment, maybe the next step will be roasting your own coffee???
My name is Gary and I am at that stage where coffee addiction is just starting to kick in.. (Maybe I should be at coffeeholics anonymous not coffeesnobs)
Anyway, I have been working at a cafe for about a year now, and I am finally at the stage where I would start to call myself a barista, rather than someone who works in hospitality.
It was sort of a slow progression from seeing a workmate make latte art, to trying to make my own.. to starting to read coffee magazines and from there delving into coffee forums and starting to spend more money on coffee equipment than my car is worth.
So I guess that is me. I would probably have said to the random person on the street (or who comes into my cafe) that I knew quite a bit about coffee but after reading through some of the forum threads here I discovered that I have really just scratched the surface.
The thing is though that where in other situations that feeling might have been daunting, when it comes to coffee it just leaves me feeling excited.. that there is still so much more to find out and so much to discover.
So there you have it, I feel like Ive spilt enough of me out for the welcome, and Im sure that I will come to know you and you me a lot better as I become even more of a Coffee Snob.
Yeah, i work behind the coffee machine for years and i still would not call myself a barista ;D
If youre interested Gary, keep an eye out for Beanbay pickups which Andy charges $1.00 a kilo for. Look in Beanbay Banter for upcoming dates. Our pickup point here in Perth is in Wembley, and Caffeinefreak (look in this issue of Beanscene, Simon is pin up boy) is hosting.
This is the time when fellow coffeesnobers get together for a chat, get advice, and pick up the beans.
Ill be qeueing up to get his autograph ;D
Hello, been mostly an unregistered lurker, and now recently registered, decided to add a post to this thread.
I am a tradesman from Lalor, Melbourne, working with glass in our family business that has been open for nearly 40 years now. My interest in coffee started mostly at home where my parents, grandparents, and later myself, would drink plenty of Turkish coffee throughout the day.
Once I started working for the business, I found myself switching mostly to espresso while out on jobs, especially with an increase on early starts. Fast forward to when my wife and I wed, we received a little sunbeam crema and sunbeam grinder (pretty much was a magic-bullet type thing, pretty horrible, but definitely usable for my inexperience). 3 years later, I caught the upgrade bug, and while researching, found this forum.
Good thing is, a friend of mine is obsessed and recommended going past Talk Coffee (conveniently close to home) where I met Chris, where he has taken time and given me a nice direction to focus on so I can upgrade and frequent these forums with more zeal.
Having found a new interest in coffee after browsing around this forum, Ive gone ahead and purchased a Gaggia Classic and a Sunbeam EM0480 grinder to get me started. Im very excited to start this journey!
