Hi everyone, long time reader, first time poster. I am new but you dont have to go easy on me.

Have traditionally made my cappucino at home with a stovetop percolator thingy (dont know what you call it, the water goes in the bottom chamber, the middle contains the coffee and the steam makes the coffee push up through the spout and into the top chamber) and frothed my milk using a miniature coffee plunger.

I was given a Breville Cafe Roma as a birthday pres (my dad has had one for years and loves it) and my cappucinos are not brilliant. I think my milk is coming out okay but the coffee tastes sort of... weak and kind of wishy washy and not really rich and aromatic like I want it to. I was given a breville burr grinder second hand and the grind is best on the finest setting but no matter how hard I tamp the coffee the water just runs through too fast. Ive had a look on these forums for hints but a lot of the language and names of parts used here escapes me so hoping with the helping hand of CSers I can get a good cappucino from my machine
    long post over!! )

British coffee enthusiast - saw a post in the non-Au section about getting coffee in Vientiane, Laos and joined - then saw you needed more than 50 posts to play in that section!!

Im on the brit site toomuchcoffee and coffeegeeks, have had a fair amount of practice at home roasting (til the Alpenrost failed) and usually get my coffee on subscription from hasbean in the UK (different one every week for 12 weeks).

Anyhoo, if youre ever visiting Vientiane again theres a place called the morning market (open all day nowadays) where a coffee shop owned by the growing/roasting co-op has started up. The coffee is pretty darn good actually!

Oooh only just saw this introduction thread :-?....

My name is Kylie and I am married with three children under 5 - hence the need for a strong coffee daily.

My husband and I own a caryard and in the last eighteen months we have built our dream home. Slowly we are finishing it off - which of course takes time :-/

I tend to become a bit obsessed with things. At present those things are building a chicken coop and COFFEE!!

The chicken coop is getting there, currently researching breeds alongside trying to educate myself on all things espresso.

Thanks again for all the wonderful assistance you have offered so far.

                Hey snobs one & all,
1st post as a newbie (got to start somewhere) So I thought a introduction would be good
Have been cruising on the sidelines lapping up info as I have needed it

                Started with a Sunbeam EM5600 Paired with a EM0450
I think I pushed it as far as it would go – got frustrated when making more than 2 coffees and
certainly got the best out of both units (no complaints)

I recently upgraded & purchased a second hand Saeco Aroma SE400 2 Group Machine had it serviced and
have received awesome support from my local (to Geelong) Service Agent
This was followed with the inevitable grinder upgrade – a Gino Rossi RR45 (reconditioned)
Am now having a ball with Seven Seeds & Grinders Beans
Thank you this site has given me plenty of information and ideas

Well I guess its my turn to chirp up now! Im new, name is Kyle. Im from Busselton WA, although currently living in Perth while studying at uni.

Yesterday I picked up my Nemox Fenice and DeLonghi KG100 grinder. I got them 2nd hand from a lovely guy called Eric. He made me a coffee on the machine and it was amazing, best Ive ever had. Perfect textured milk and rich flavor!

Needly to say my own attempts today and yesterday were hopeless, watery and zero micro foam but Im keen to learn!

Ive been reading a huge amount on these forums, theyre fantastic. Looking forward to meeting you all

                    Hi everyone,

New to the site and havent been able to leave it.  So much information I cant stop reading.  I have rarely ever had espressos and while at uni today decided to have a shot.  I was observing very keenly whilst they made the shot and even counted to myself.  It was poured in around 10secs and even after a little reading I thought this wont be any good.  And it wasnt.  It was one of the most sour things I have ever drank.  I am now itching to pour my own and have convinced the other half to get a silvia.

To wrap it up, great site and I am looking forward to my own little coffee adventure.

                    Cheers guys and gals,
                    Aaron

                      Welcome Aaron

You might want to hold off on the Silvia in case the new Breville blows it out of the water hehehe

Make sure you have a good grinder, again Breville does a really good one, or you go a hand grinder.

Make sure you always have fresh beans to go into your machine, its the only way to get good coffee.

Lastly go and buy yourself a popper, grab some beans from beanbay and start roasting

                        Hi shapeshifter,

I was reading the topic on the breville and it sounds like it could be out of my price range. I am pretty convinced of the smart grinder though and will get on next week sometime, this will atleast improve my plunger coffee. I dont know about the popper, not just yet anyway but would love to in the future. I actually good some pretty nice beans the other day from sprocket in Newcastle and today at cinos in Maitland. Tried some before that from gjs and they were horrible. My other half called me last night from Sydney as she is attending the easter show and just so happens they are in the hotel right next to the coffee school. I wish I had of gone now.

                        Cheers,
                        Aaron

Ahhh another Newcastle person. They are both cafes?

Go over the bridge to Lorn and go to Real Coffee, he sells his own freshly roasted beans in there.

Also Bliss which is in the street that Harvey Norman is on in Rutherford, they roast in there as well, literally, you walk in the door and there is the roaster.

Better than cafe beans I would think.

LOL check out my popper threads, there is new one coming shortly, thread that is, you might be convinced otherwise ;D

I will have to check your popper threads out. Actually I go out the BCF alot just up from harvery norman. Will have to check that out and maybe go for a bit of a round trip past Lorn. Is there many people from Newcastle on this forum?

There are not an awful lot but they are gaining, everywhere I go I talk CoffeeSnobs My OH also works with a few people that used to be active on here and still buy beans, they have kids though so dont have time for the forum anymore.

We do have an expert roaster on here in Newcastle and Im told he does a breath taking coffee, I should talk to him about doing a get together, Im supposed to be contacting him to try out one of his machines
