  • Joomla / mambo websites - anybody experienced?

I have just set up a website for the non profit organisation I am a part of and was wondering if anyone out there new about Joomla application for website content management.

I need assistance with developing a database to store and display information (A directory if you like) of Aquatic Facilities around WA.

Is there anyone that can give me some guidance or some information on how I could go about this.

have you got it running and need to develop the database

    or

do you still need to setup the database on your server for the CMS to run on?

The CMS is already up and running, I just need to add the directory database into it to but not sure how online databases really work.  I understand MS Access with Fields, Tables Queries and Reports but do not know how to develop an online database.  I have downloaded the component FABRIK in hoping this will help but not really sure what to do with it.

If you want to look at the website to view and get a better understanding of what it is all about go to:

Joomla is actually one whole online database in itself. If you want to get your hands slightly dirty take a look at the backend which is MySQL - it looks different to Access but at its heart its the same beast with essentially the same constructs (Tables - queries etc)

Have you looked at some of the existing extensions available to see if one of those can suit your purpose?

Perhaps something like SOBI 2 (Freeware GNU GPL) - Sigsiu Online Business Index 2 its a directory component for Joomla! to show entries of companies and clubs (like the "Yellow Pages").

Yes I have looked at SOBI but not sure if it suits my needs. Might have to revisit it again to see if I can alter to my needs.

            Cheers for the reply.
