    Re: A Lovely Sunday Arvo!

Thats a very funny photo, Andy! What a fantastic use for duct tape! Even the kid looks happy! ;D

I know, Dennis, the lean on the bike is something that always has me nervous but Im getting used to it. A friend has an ST4 and it does have a centre stand. However, hes been known to catch it once or twice going round a sharp corner and says that its not a good experience. Makes me glad that the 900ss doesnt!

I would have thought that being posted to "Woop Woop" (are you sure youre not close to me? I honestly thought I lived in Woop Woop! ) would have been the perfect excuse to get a ride, Sammy. Just so you can get the heck outta there when the riding days are good!

    Java! Welcome to winter, dude!

The older (70s) 900SS only ever had a Centre-Stand and if you wanted to fit a Side-Stand as an option, it was a real mickey-mouse, dinky looking thing that I would never trust on any of my Dukes . Never had any probs grounding the stand on my 75 900SS, and I used to crank it over til my knees copped a bit of a rubbing so maybe the newer stands are a bit more obtrusive than they used to be, or maybe more associated with smaller diameter wheels being used these days and less ground clearance..... :-?

      Love my Dukes ,

      Mal.

That so describes my stand, Mal! ;D

Yeah, I know that warm fuzzy feeling...I only have to brush past her under the house, where she waits patiently for me, protected by her "blanket" and I get it! 8-)

My Norton had a center stand and it had plenty of ground clearance. Unfortunately the same could not be said for the foot pegs! They were rigid mounts and as soon as you really got into a curve would hit the road! A bit scary the first time it happened to me as I was hitting a cloverleaf nice and hard.

In the end the foot peg was not only the cause of my slide but also my salvation. It stuck in the curb and kept me on the road until I could get the speed down to where I could straighten up. EEK! That was a tad hairy! I quickly learned that the Norton could not lay over nearly as far as the other bikes Id ridden! :

Its not quite winter here yet, just the cool bit preceding it. A hint of whats to come, but it is official. Summer is over and the chill is here, I swapped out my shorts for sweat pants yesterday. :

Hi Scootagal. Im heading out to Albury (on the border of NSW/VIC), I guess its not that woop woop as its a pretty big regional centre, but a bit different to Sydney!
I opted not to go for the bike as all i could think about is the possibility of zooming through freezing freezing coldness on a bike at a crazy early hour of the morning on the way to work (which wouldnt be more than 10minutes or so away from anywhere in Albury). Brrr. The Silvia seemed much nicer. I think I might get a bike though, might be a less scary environment for me to learn to ride.
I like your photos by the way, it looks like it wouldve been a nice ride.

Hey Sammy! Albury is at the foot hills of some potentially awesome riding!

Even as I speak, some 400 odd Ducatis are descending on Albury to ride Turismo for the next week or so!

And sadly...I am not amongst them...

Hi Sammy... not only is Albury at he foothills of awesome riding, the ride to Albury from either direction is pretty spectacular too, if you avoid the Hume, that is...
when we were "stationary" living in Albury, we often met friends for a ride with morning tea in Bright, Harrietville or Falls Creek, then a ride back via the cheese factories or pick up a bottle here or there.
bigger rides to Canberra, Lakes Entrance (o ver the top) or Healesville ... plenty of scenery, 500km per day, yay!!

enjoy the rides here...it was just about the first thing Rob did when we arrived home after the straight roads of WA: hit the bitumen for a blat around Corryong, back via the mountains...

PM me if you feel like a coffee!! well be in Albury for the next few months.

                L

                  Re: A Lovely Sunday Arvo!

Lizzi, you really have the travel bug!! Albury to Bright, Mt Beauty, Myrtleford, even Canberra I understand.

But to Healesville!! And Lakes Entrance!! Now that is a long stretch.

I was very tempted out of necessity to travel from the Gippsland Lakes to up near Echuca, once, for a wedding or funeral (one of them) some years ago.

Studied the map, stared at it, pondered over it.... and decided that over the mountains on dubious unfamiliar roads was too far from my comfort zone. So didnt do it.

Unfortunately, most travel these days is out of necessity -- to get from A to B in the quickest, easist way. And to me, that means appreciating long stretches of boring, ruler-straight highways/freeways.

wow, Robusto, unfamiliar roads, mountains... but that is the whole point of a good ride!!
mind you, i generally was sitting on Robs rear wheel, not riding shotgun, so i had the easy ride but nevertheless, a ride is for fun and to expect the un-expected and come out the other end with a grin on your face makes for a nice weekend ride!

OK, there were times when , on a very hot day and riding the Harley, i would prefer the dead straight roads (stick 2 or 3 limbs at the time out into the cooling breeze... ;D), but with a more agile bike ruler-straight roads make for brain-dead Lizzis, having to stand up on the pegs to alleviate numb-bum! :-[
sliding off the seat to pull the bike around a tight bend helps the blood flow to every bodypart!! ;D

                      Re: A Lovely Sunday Arvo!

Hm, Im actually a QLDer and a bit oblivious to NSW geography so thanks for filling me in on those places around Albury.

Albury to Lakes Entrance!! whoa! That I know is huge!. The only riding ive done is when i did the 2 day motorcycle licence course (QLD road rules) and then somehow got my open unrestricted licence, so maybe chugging around the Albury CBD is more like my league at the moment! Hm, then maybe Albury to a cheese factory...theres a cheese factory near Albury!...mmm cheese!

Lizzy ill be in Albury from mid-January or so, will you still be there then? Thats exciting, Ive never met another Coffeesnobber!

                        Re: A Lovely Sunday Arvo!

yep, we will be in the area until the 1st week of Feb, so doo-drop-inn!!!
and, if you have a bike to ride, Rob will be happy to show you the bendy bits!! ;D ;D

by he way, the local Ulysses club has its Coast ride over three days this weekend, Albury to Lakes Entrance, then Merrimbula, then home!

The Great Dividing Range has some superb rides, and one of my best memories is coming down Mt Hotham after coming back from Phillip Island (we went the long way around :P )...
it was one of these rides where everything "clicked".
the boys were "up front" (obviously) both with a (speed-freak teenage..) daughter as pillion, i rode second rung, and the rest of the group was behind me...we had left early from Bairnsdale so the morning mists were still hanging in some of the valleys... i swear that by the time i came through the white posts were still flapping from the boys passing by...
good ride, that, so smooth !!

                          Re: A Lovely Sunday Arvo!

With all this talk of riding...

I was riding a different beast today...

A quad runner towing a spray boom! LOL! So, I was only riding around my paddocks at about 6kms/hr as opposed to...well...warp speed!

Yep, the weeds are getting away here at the moment, so I had to swap two wheels for four!

Meanwhile, the yellow bike sits parked up as I have to get some new spark plugs! Dagnamit! >

Yes, weve had some good rain at last! But we still need a flood to really end this drought. The ants are still out in my house, so they must think that something is coming yet! And as weathermen, the ants are the most reliable!

                                Re: A Lovely Sunday Arvo!

In January, I had a new clutch put in the Duke (after 65,000kms! Nearly broke the record apparently!) and a bad thermosenser was the root of the rough running at temp, not spark plugs it turned out. Took the guys nearly a week to figure that one! So, since being back home Ive not had a chance to scratch my nose, let alone go for a ride. Well, that and the weather!

However, finally, both things conspired to be in my favour! Time and scratching my nose! LOL! No, I mean, time and the weather!

So, I went for a blat up the hill to Armidale where my son is at school. I took some pictures at some landmarks on the trip and thought Id share...

See if you can guess where I am! ;D

When I was at the second landmark, by the time I was getting ready to leave, there had gathered an audience and I was more of a tourist attraction than the actual tourist attraction!! ;D ;D You can guess that I took my time getting on and starting her up, after which, I let her idle for a moment before gently pulling away and out the driveway. I gave her a squirt down the road but not enough to lift a front wheel! 8-) Yes, I am a crowd pleaser!
