the fridge is currently only storing the cheese, and hopefully acquiring some wonderful bacteria in the process, which will come in handy once  the cheesemaking starts in a few months, once i have gotten used to having so many  hobbies back on track after so long
the house is only 19.5sq, but as there is virtually no dead space, as in hallways etc, it seems bigger.
it has master bedroom/wir/bath (bathroom not finished yet), spare bedroom,  a studio which can be turned into a 3rd bedroom, small study opening off the lounge, laundry, second bathroom, and the central core of the house which is the kitchen with deli-room behind it, lounge and morning room ( the room on the North which gets the sun in  the morning )
that room also has the slate floor, which warms up from the days sunshine as well as the wood heater and the radiates it back into the house during the evening/night.
the slate is 50-60mm thick and sits on about 30-40mm of concrete, so it forms a good heat -retainer!

The Kimberlies are definitely on my bucket list, along with Tassie. Just waiting for the nest to empty here, which wont be long now and I reckon Ill be planning more of my own adventures in a CT!  8-)

    hey Scoota,

campertrailer, ay? our middle daughter is currently in the Kimberlies with a great 4WD rig, having lots of fun
glad you like the pics; in real life the house is indeed amazing... spare bedroom at the ready for mainland visitors, just so you know
done the first roast in the new roastery today; we built a utility room behind the kitchen where all the smelly stuff is being roasted/deepfried/preserved/pickled/brewed/dried and smoked.... initially called the smelly kitchen , but now re-named the deli-room
the GreenBean is on the bench there and after having had to calibrate the gas flow again, produced some very fine beans.
another step forward in the process of settling in....

Lizzi, it was worth the wait, I can tell you!!

The new house looks just awesome and I love those windows along the front! Along with the two tree trunks you have as features and wow...the whole place just looks amazing.

Good to hear that Cocky is going to get a bit of tlc and be put back into commission to see some more of Tassie.

Since youve been here, Ive done a bit of travelling with a camper trailer and have got the bug to get out and do some more exploring of this wonderful country we reside in too! 8-)

    Re: coffee on the road

    Hey Dennis
with the views ( snowcapped mountains ) to the South and the sun to the North we had no option but to build a house which has huge windows on both sides!... bit like a bus, actually
we tried to use local material where possible, green hardwood for the frame, slate from a local slate mine, tree-trunks from a local coupe to support the arch in the lounge.
the shape of the house allows sunshine and light to fall through the whole spine, allowing for different highlights on the curved walls and angled ceilings.
it has been a huge challenge to build it, but our wonderful master-builder Geoff taught Rob what he needed to know which then allowed Rob to do most of the building.
The input and support of the local tradies who have taken the special character of the house on board and created the most innovative solutions for utility-challenges has been overwhelming and we have a long honour list of tradies-names on the wall behind the fridge, written in permanent marker, so it will never disappear, no matter how many coats of paint go over it

As an avid reader of your coffee on the road" adventures I almost begrudged the idea of you settling down!

It is however, wonderful to see your new home has taken shape with the inclusion of such beautiful features.

I cant imagine that youll ever tire of looking out those windows.

    Cheers!

    Re: coffee on the road

    hey Scoota
sorry, a few years late with my reply.. :-[
didnt monitor CS for a while... busy doing landlocked stuff like building a house!
yes, that was our letter in the wine mag, and it won me an espresso machine.. which did not eventuate, due to dealer/supplier issues, but the wineclub made up  for it by sending me a $%^# load of wine!
just the thing for aching joints and tired hands after a hard day on the tools
in the in between years Rob has built us the most spectacular curved house, which is now at the stage where we can move in, although the back of the house still needs some cladding and the decks have not been built yet.
but, we have moved in ( mostly ) and with the wood heater going full bore and the Alex Duetto on the bench this place looks and feels very cosy.
the Cocky is still sitting on site, as i have not had the courage/time/energy to move everything from its many cupboards and hidey holes... also, as our friendly utility company Aurora has  forgotten to put the reduced-tariff meter in our meterbox, we cannot hook up the electric-boosted solar hws and we are still having showers in the bus.... not that much sun in Tassie around this time of year!
but, we expect the Cocky" to go to its special bus-port next to the shed in the next few weeks where it will patiently wait until we have done some much needed repairs to some of the panels... a legacy of many days spent a stones-throw from the ocean!
we hope to have her on the road again in early 2013, ready for some fishing trips around the wonderful island of Tasmania!
we are looking forward to that.... being landlocked builders/normal people we have not had a rod in the water since we arrived in Bridport!... shame on us!
ok, hopefully more time and more Internet options to keep track of CS now we are formally house-dwellers again
    coffee rocks!
