Having lurked here for a little over a year (and a member for less than half of that), I cant help but be amazed at what Ive learned.
12 months ago, preparing espresso coffee; real, sweet, nectar-like espresso seemed like something completely outwith my bounds of possibility - it was something I considered a special gift reserved for all but the most elite Baristi.
Whilst I am still in pursuit of the legendary "God-Shot" (Ive come bloody close a few times), I look back over the last six months and reflect on the exponential increase in my understanding and indeed, ability to craft an espresso. From initially considering myself limited to operating a push-button super-auto, I reflect on how I can now apply what I have learned here on CoffeeSnobs to convert an innocuous little green coffee bean into a magical, wonderful liquid (topped with a rosetta no less!)
So then it hit me...
When I first joined CoffeeSnobs, I chose the name "Coffee Quaffer" because that was all I was capable of - passively consuming coffee, typically bought from/prepared by other persons. Never, in my wildest dreams did I ever envisage that I would be roasting the beans and then extracting espresso for myself.
Thats all changed. Im now "hands on".
So, goodbye "Coffee Quaffer" - be gone with your passe reliance on others to feed your passion.
Hello "Alchemist" - long may your pursuit of the perfect espresso live on.
Geez I love coffee....
