I did know what you meant, Lis, I like traditions too. Fiddler on the Roof is one of my favourite shows/movies. It was the first DVD I ever bought, long before I had a DVD player - I grabbed it just so I would have a copy.
no, Tevje doesnt sing about Christmas ;D ;D;
it was the sentiment of trying to hold on to tradition which grabbed me in that song, and some of these traditions, be they family-originated or of cultural origin, are just so wonderful.... (true, some are not... )

Are we the only ones with a tree up..... still?
the 6th of January is the day the 3 Wise Men/Kings supposedly found the stable by following the Star of Bethlehem...
therefore the tree SHOULD be still up... the ornament /star in the top of the tree represents the Star of Bethlehem, and if you take the tree down before the 6th of January the 3 Kings cannot find their way!!
***quietly sings: "Traditioooon...."" (Fiddler on the Roof)****
Brett Nice Cubby house, with a cubby house like that, I would be kicking the little one out and setting it up as a roasting house or coffee shop. ;D
At least if your in trouble with the wife, you can still have a nice place to sleep outside. All you need to do now is run some power to it so you can have a real Tea (meaning coffee) party with your little one in the cubby house.
My kids had a similar one for many, many, many years.
We finally convinced them to get rid of it when they both couldnt fit in it any more (not that long ago).
Now theres another little one enjoying it.
They almost lived in it when they were little.
I even ran an intercom to it from the kitchen so we could call them in for tea.
Our tree is still up. We have some relatives from QLD coming over today so we still have a few gifts to exchange.
My wife and I dont really exchange gifts at Christmas. We just get each other things during the year as they come up.
Our little one is approaching 2YO and really enjoyed this Christmas. She opened and studied each present very carefully. Plays with everything and enjoys it all.
The triumph of presents for her was an extremely generous gift from her Grandparents and one of her Uncles on my wifes side. A cubby. A serious cubby. 3 guys took 2 hours to build it cubby!
Our girl LOVES it and Im sure shell get many years of fun out of it.

Our tree is also still up, and the 16yo has a lot of stuff around it still. Just pointed out that there will be a bunch of small kids here tonight, so I can hear some tidying up going on as I type.
And what did I get? A teenager who remembers which chefs and movies I like and only buys me their cookbooks and DVDs - Bill Graingers Holiday, Richard Gere in Sommersby and Fame. Also got a Scanpan saucepan and fancy skin care stuff from my sisters, so Im happy.
