  • I have a customer who comes in every day gets a soy decaf latte, and asks for it super super hot, so I boil her soy till it burns. She loves it every time.

It is said that ignorance is bliss... if that really is the case then she must be very, very happy!

I'm struggling to see what the problem is with that? My wife drinks decaf at the moment and likes a stronger flavour in her coffee.

            • I found that too. Due to the noticeable effect of caffeine on the body, the wife moved to decaf. Not for a lack of love for the taste of good coffee.

The trend at cafes I have been to (and who am I really to criticise) is for decaf to be a single shot, where normally a double is delivered. Spied them one day with two shot glasses, only one made it into the final cup.

After fielding many complaints over a few months about warm milk, I asked. Apparently I need to ask for 'extra strong decaf' or a 'double shot decaf'

The explanation from one place (at an event in the middle of nowhere) was that there was only one grinder. The decaf took the hit and so was ground in batches. The resulting shot would only let them have 1 shot before turning bitter.

              • Here's perhaps my all time favourite.

Customer: Can I have a cappuccino please? And can you not make it too strong?
Me: Sure. So you want it a little weaker?
Customer: No, don't make it weak. Just don't make it too strong.

Now, at this point I used to get into a whole 'why do people do this, I should have been a plumber like dad said' kind of zone. Perhaps I've been doing it too long because now I say 'so I'll just make it like a regular cappucino?' and they generally reply 'ummmm.....yes'.

Feel free to replace the strong/weak in the scenario with hot/warm.

Next episode; a customer enters a cafe and orders two flat whites, one very weak and one quarter strength.................

And yes it was after midnight when posted. However i had the coffee at 6pm so i could drive 150 km home then unload all my stock at work. So it was a very long day.
Now back in perth after leaving at 630 this morning.

So, where can one get decent coffee in Goomalling? That would be nice to know.

I own the cafe on the main street in Goomalling. (Also the only cafe in town).

Whats wrong with that? It's a simple coffee/milk ratio. I like my latte to taste like coffee (whether decaf instead or not) rather than milk.

                              • I never understood the reason why people want their barista to put sweeteners into their coffee. If you're old enough to be ordering coffee, you can add your own darn sugar or otherwise sweetener to your beverage
