I can only blame my self... Lost 5 years of tweaking and setups.....
IN addition to a week of bashing my head on any number of HDD and the floor.
1: In search of speed do not uncheck the option to validate or if it is unchecked (often the default) then CHECK and CHECK again and set it to Validate...
I have always berated and beaten up on so many who loose data and state" I was going to backup".
I have 3 backups... In three separate locations... And rotate through them about every 3 weeks.... Good and bad...
I was short some time after having an issue with some recovery processes for another and "turned off the validate option". Shortly after I had a problem or two when doing another recovery and did a restore from image... All worked as expected...
Time passed ( 5 - 6 weeks) and I noticed performance was a problem...
I made an emergent image on Saturday... Would attend later.
Wife rang to say it had a boot problem on Monday last week...
Yep, sector and block errors.... HD was failing... Thats OK, I have 3 .. no 4 images of my main system.... Data is backed up on a full NAS raid system as well as off line.
Needless to say every Image I had access to including the last two that I could un-deleat were all corrupt and thus would not restore. Note to self... The corrupt error usually appears almost at the end... Time consuming.
So after any a large number of attempts, I have given up...
So I am now trying to reinstall and re load countless applications etc. Needless to say, some I will forget about and others will be lost for sure... Let alone all the web pages and forums etc that I have subscribed to over the years... Yes I have some and some of this is almost redundant as Firefox has addins etc that allow you to sync all all you passwords/ profiles etc and along with G-mail etc some of the day to day stuff is OK....
It is all the tweaks and setup and keys that will be the main pain in the butt... A week off and 1.5 kg of beans needed... Oh and a dog to kick.. The wife is already complaining that I have not come out of the den for long enough and when I come up to eat... Apparently I just GRUNT...
ALWAYS check as to VALIDATE your BACKUPS... Do not over right until you have at least TWO good backups... CONFIRMED.
