similar to what Flynn said above drop the "quality" of the pics slightly to about 80% when tweaking them. If you want some software to do that use "irfranview" easy to drive. A 640x480 pic will nearly 1/2 in size when saved at 80%

Check the size of the images you use. Convert them to a GIF or JPG file before pasting/ inserting into the PPT preso.
Usually when you try to zip a PDF you end up with a slightly larger file as the PDF format already uses compression.

All photos are Jpeg 640 x 480
Does the black background of the presentation make it larger in file size?
I can revert back to Plain white?
even leaving the pics at 640x480 if you reduce quality (more compression than just normal Jpeg format) you can reduce file size. If you go to far the pics can get a little furry (60% or lower). Just realised some pics I posted the other day on Syphons I forgot to drop quality before posting here :-[
Also with PDFs depending on the software you use to create the file you can change the compression (DPI setting) of the file as well from what I remember.
AS BF said, if you happen to also start out with a PDF you can also PDF the PDF and change the quality to reduce the size (i use Adobe writer) not sure how other applications do this process though.

Some times it all depends on the original application and content. Changing graphics will usually reduce size but can impact on quality..
In Advanced and Optimizer you can make a number of changes... Getting rid of Fonts and making some other options can sometimes make MAJOR difference to documents.
Also be aware that Office 2007 does some interesting things to graphics and you have to use the internal object editor to get some changes to work.. Scaling and re sizing is only a view... The embedded graphic is not changed in any way...
Thanks for all the advice fellow CSers [smiley=thumbup.gif]
Just to let you know that this presentation is my very first ever
I think its a fair job for a novice
Thats why I havent been online often these past few days
I did it at Google Docks
Once done it can be published and posted by a link or player
The best thing is that I can alter, add more information, or just leave it alone.
