    Re: Its Freezing Here...

Thats not a bad effort for a frost Scoota Gal, but it isnt a patch on the frosts we get in Christchurch, and ours arent a patch on the ones they get in Central Otago.

Had some days in the last few weeks with a recorded high of around 6 - 8 deg but that excludes the windchill. 1 day managed to get up to around 1 before slipping back into the negatives again (effective temp).

We havent even had our first snow fall yet (get a few snow showers most years). Its tried a few times (sleet / hail) but not quite there yet.

Our back yard about this time last year.

        Ohhh Senator...

We came to Sydney from Christchurch in 1982. We get back a couple of times a year (not usually in winter though) and are presently in the early stages of planning a move back for family reasons. Pictures like that arent helping

        Keep cosy - Carrie

              Re: Its Freezing Here...

the kids actually did try the slide, only to have very cold and wet bums.

It was our first ever snow, only shifted to CHCH a few years ago from Auckland. It wasnt a big dump, only s few cms on the ground, but was still a buzz.

We arent in any ranges or Hills Mal, CHCH is pretty much all flat (Port Hills to the east, Southern Alps 150ks or so to the west).

I prefer the cold (I would owning a video shop ) but theory being that when you are cold, you can always put on an extra layer or 2 and warm up, however, when its hot, your buggered (sleeping in 20 deg or more heats?). My wife on the other hand, I think shes allergic to the cold.

                Re: Its Freezing Here...

-2 here this morning...with another big frost!

It will be firewood gathering this weekend at this rate!

We often have 30 degrees at night during Summer here, Senator. It is not a comfortable temperature to sleep in but as it is a dry heat and we have evaporative cooling, it can bring the inside temp down to a pleasant sleeping level.

                  Re: Its Freezing Here...

Well it is above 0 here, by one degree!

The surrounding hills have snow on them.
Been a cold one, already 2/3s through the wood pile.

The car take 7 minutes and over 6kms of driving before the water temp even moves. Another 8 minutes and 7kms and its just got to operating temperture. COLD!
At least I am not on a bike! Tell me youre not that brave Scoota?

Its surprising what the body can get used to. I moved from Melbourne to FNQ about 5 years ago, and now anything around 20º feels pretty cool. Below that and its time to rug up.
/edit. However I do still struggle with the humidity in summer
