All I can say is The Ashes+starting work at 5:30am = Brutal.
Try being up all day, starting work at 10pm, finish at 6am, get home, take phone calls, then go and catch up with a fellow snobber for an hour and a half or so...then have a mate over fer a coffee at 1pm. ;D Now THATS murder.

Either that or a perfect eye fillet steak...thats murder, beautiful, delicious murder. 8-)

Ponting was looking impregnable, awesome form. Clarke as well, was a very good ball that got him. Hussey is not looking so strong...flashed at one that was never there, reckon hes probably got one more Test to keep his spot. Theres plenty of good bats making runs with the counties.

Yes you are right Marcus North scored 117 runs in his Maiden first Test innings, in South Africa
And the first Australian to do so against South Africa (maiden century)

Theyll probably play out a draw. Especially if the rains come.

Was  going to say to YeeZa that his was a big call if you know anything about the weather in Wales (July average 89mm, and rain in 14 days out of 31)

Re: Cricket Test: The Ashes 2009

Yes congratulations to Brad Haddin on getting an Ashes test century with 121 runs

Current score and state of play
                      Snip: from an article

England face a test of nerve on the final day of the Ashes opener in Cardiff after slumping to 20-2 in their second innings, still 219 behind, when rain brought a premature close to the fourth day.

Marcus North and Brad Haddin plundered centuries as Australia declared their first innings at 674-6 in mid-afternoon - their highest total in an Ashes encounter for 75 years.

And Australias new ball attack of Mitchell Johnson and Ben Hilfenhaus both struck early to put England in deep trouble at tea.

Johnson removed Alastair Cook (6) lbw in the fifth over of the innings, the tall left-hander trapped in front of middle stump attempting to work a straight ball to square-leg.

                              England cling on in Cardiff
Australia unable to dislodge last-wicket pair in final hour

                              Result a draw
                              Snip: from an article

James Anderson and Monty Panesar held off Australias bowlers to save England from defeat in a dramatic opening Test in the Ashes series.

The last-wicket pair were unlikely batting heroes as they stood firm for 69 deliveries in the final hour of day five to see their side through to 252-9 at stumps.

Paul Collingwood had held Englands second innings together with a determined 74 that saw him occupy the crease for almost six hours.

However, when he was dismissed by Peter Siddle, caught at the second attempt by Michael Hussey in the gully, Australia looked odds-on for victory.

England, though, were able to rely on numbers 10 and 11 to see them through to safety, meaning the two sides are still deadlocked ahead of the start of the second Test at Lords on Thursday

Odd term to use considering this is the First test.  :-?
