meaning the two sides are still deadlocked
Odd term to use considering this is the First test.  :-?
It is a snip from a Sky News article
But it could be a carry over from the last Ashes ??

Re: Cricket Test: The Ashes 2009

In the last Ashes series (2006 -7), England was soundly flogged by the Aussies 5-0 so if it was a carry over, they couldnt STILL be deadlocked let alone be deadlocked at all.

Anyway, semantics! The English were saved by the weather - and by their tail.

I was listening to the radio and some comments on the game were that the English just batted to a draw and it was not cricket
I say they did what they had to do and got away with it
Lets hope with our great performance the English dont get away with a mediocre performance again

I love the time wasting by the poms. Bring the 12th man out two overs in a row and the physio too, just to give James Anderson a pat on the back...Benny Hinn of physiotherapy (better than the magic spray which was also used in the same innings...) Halleluja!

Yeah, there were complaints made. I dont know why they dont call time out during these occasions. Given the no. of overs that were lost and the sun not setting until 9:30 or so, why dont they just bowl extra overs on the last day. Make it a rule or something. Theyve got lights anyway.

dunno that that was the case if you read pommie sport websites but like the aussies to sledge the poms when you dont get a win

Re: Cricket Test: The Ashes 2009

I reckon that the main reason that Test cricket is losing popularity is because you can play 5 days and not get a result. This is even after the Tests were extended to s fifth day.

20/20 is very popular for a multitude of reasons: Wicket taking, shot making, 2 hrs for a match, and a draw is highly unlikely.

Maybe Test cricket should introduce some sort of "sudden death" format to force a result.

Re: Cricket Test: The Ashes 2009

The problem with any form of the game is how much one understands about the game

Its a miracle that other variations have been invented for cricket and all popular

I like all 3 versions of cricket but I will go back to my first point
Most people have not seen an actual cricket pitch and a good majority of followers have only seen it on the box (TV)

I have played cricket in my youth and I can inform people that a cricket pitch looks like c**p its like a war zone - pitted - cracked - scuffed.
Much damage is done during the course of the passing days

The draw after 5 days is a testament of staying power against - the opposition, the elements, the body fatigue,
To get a draw in the face of defeat, is to be interpreted as a chance to fight another day

Test Cricket matches are not only about results but how the game is played by the 2 sides.

Re: Cricket Test: The Ashes 2009

I also like all 3 forms of the game. Im warming to 20/20 as it evolves from just being a "kncok the ball out of the ground" game. The IPL looks very competitive.

Test cricket is best viewed on the last day of a close match when the result could go either way. The 2 tied tests were among the most entertaining in history.

One-day has also offered some highly entertaining matches as it requires a very high level of strategy not just based on field placing.

My first forays into cricket was on an asphalt pitch (ie playground) or a concrete one with a mat overlay if we played another school. My two cricket highlights were once making into double figures and inexpilcably bowling the school champ on one of the few deliveries that wasnt ridiculously wide.

                        Ok Boys & Girls

Second Ashes test at Lords is under way

Apparently Australia have not lost a test match at Lords since the 30s

                        Good luck Australia

Results on the first days play 2nd Ashes Test - Lords
I was getting worried at the start as England were over 150 runs without a lost wicket

But I woke up to slightly better news England 6 for 364
