    Re: Any beersnobs here?

I must confess to being a bit of a novice beer snob. At the moment Im just enjoying mucking around with home brewing but my beer snobbery is way behind my coffee snobbery still. My favs would have to be little creatures and coopers pale ale, but trying to find a good beer on the Sunshine Coast is harder than trying to find a good coffee. And finding a good beer on tap is out of the question.

How can you be a beer snob on Aussie Beers tho? :P
5 years ago I would have said the exact same thing, but after jumping the ditch I can say with 100% certainty that Auzzie beer leaves NZ breweries for dust. When I took my wife back to NZ we went and bought all my old favorite NZ beers and with a long BBQ tasted them all. I was as unimpressed as she was. I ate humble pie the rest of the holiday.

              Re: Any beersnobs here?

I still havent found a better beer than Franziskaner.

Upon arriving in the town of Bacharach on the Rhine river, Germany, my partner and I embarked on a difficult trek up a steep hill to the castle which has been converted into a hostel.  It was a warm day and our heavy backpacks didnt help matters, so upon reaching the summit we had acquired a bit of a thirst.  We sat down in the bar and selected the first beer on the menu.  Franziskaner.  As the first traces of this cold, crisp, amber, flavoursome weissbier touched my lips, I knew it would be a long time before Id find a beer of this calibre again...

Just wondering how many of you are beersnobs too...I am proud to say I am possibly fussier about beer than i am coffee ("ducks for cover") ;D
I am in someways fussier about beer than coffee; you know what you are getting with a beer, it has a label. When you walk into a new coffee place you dont!

I cant stand anything brewed by Carlton or Tooheys. I get very offended when take another beer and screw it up ("Brewed under license").

                Like Belgian beers, love German.

As for Aussie I can drink Coopers.
                I like MSB/James Squire.
I love Hargreaves Hill, Knappstein and Coldstream brewery (only had it on tap. Great restaurant, food is amazing, coffee isnt too bad either)

I did the home brew for about 5 years. Took up too much time and space. Could always make beer better than most Aussie brewers but never close to the German. Also didnt drink enough to make it worth while.
Although like roasting coffee you could make it how you like.
I even made a "green leaf" beer once If you know what I mean!

                  Re: Any beersnobs here?

For a country better known for their coffee and cuisine, the Italians make a very nice drop - Peroni. I first had one in Leichhardt about 20 years ago and still like it. Nice crisp style with enough bite/ bitterness to let you know youre drinking it.

And (as opposed to those "made under licence") still brewed in Italy.

                    Re: Any beersnobs here?

I too am a total beer snob - Coopers Best Extra Stout is my poison of choice. Although, Bootleg Brewery do a nice chocolately/coffee stout occasionally, though you pay for the experience & the bottles are a 330mL. Which is not quite enough, so you need to have 2 8-)

I am not a beer snob
However I do like beer but like spirits more

I like Cyprus Brandy and Drambuie

                        another hophead here, too.
I go through phases...Coopers Stout is the go at the moment.
Probably the nicest beer for me, though, is Chimay Blue
                        cheers and beers

If were talking brewed under licence Andys going to have to get extremly violent smileys > just doesnt do it.

                            Yep...beer snob.

One of my favourites is Old Speckled Hen. Quite distinctive.

Regulars are DAB (a great German drop), Coopers Pale and Dark, Blue Tongue...

More importantly (ducking for cover), I am a scotch whiskey snob. That is a drink for us more refined drinkers :P
                            Springbank 15 year thanks .
