    China Hush
    "Pollution in China"

October 14, 2009, the 30th annual awards ceremony of the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund took place at the Asia Society in New York City. Lu Guang from People’s Republic of China won the $30,000 W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography for his documentary project “Pollution in China.”

Gone is the beauty of China
The photography is superb in telling a story of the industrial changes and its effects to the environment and its people

It saddens me to see such images

Here is a couple of about 40 photos

    1. “At the junction of Ningxia province and Inner Mongolia province, I saw a tall chimney puffing out golden smoke covering the blue sky, large tracts of the grassland have become industrial waste dumps; unbearable foul smell made people want to cough; Surging industrial sewage flowed into the Yellow River…”

Inner Mongolia province Heilonggui Industrial District, the couple who worked at the Plaster Kiln and just got home. March 22, 2007

Thats the price they pay for us; so that we get cheep products...

As stated before... Solar panels are so nasty to produce that the carbon foot print can never be repaid.. Yes, those users here get something back when producing electricity but it is still a negative... It is not unlike the cheep shoes and other goods we purchase every day from many places OS...

Its not in our back yard and I want it cheep... Thus my head is firmly planted into the ground...

Just look at the $$ of any white goods and electronics and cars etc etc... Much of the raw product comes from China and other places; that we often complain about as to human rights etc..

We can not have it all ways... Who said 2012... May be it will be sooner... We are but a virus / parasite that inhabits a host and like many parasites... Sometimes we even kill our host; but at our peril

As an concerned parent... It frightens me...

As a member of the human race, I am disappointed; but history has shown we never really learn as we are all short sighted...

From the universes view .... We are NOTHING... but a flicker on a ripple of space time.. The universe does not care, it does not even know we exist...

Thus we need to start to look inwards; rather than out and expect some one to come and save us...

PS. China will take over the world, inhabit the best parts and use the waste lands to produce what it needs... The Borg were right... Assimilation and the collective or we will perish sooner than we think.

Enjoy ya coffee while ya can ;D

The picture that blew me away was the one of the worker in the field of cotton...

Did anyone notice how the cotton was BLACK!?!

I cant even begin to imagine what chemicals they use to clean that cotton up after its been picked.

Cotton from China has always been rubbish and that picture pretty much confirms why.

As to the other photos, they are a disturbing and sad picture of basically what is a holocaust occurring every day for those people. And I think that the only way China will change its policies on how these industries conduct themselves there is if pressure comes from their own people. I dont see that happening...
