    Re: iPhone App

Maybe a Bean Cellar type of App (your stock of beans, purchase date, weight left), roasting notes and tasting notes for each bean

      Yeah, I like that idea.
Perhaps have it so you could enter all your beans by name (or blend), month/year, extra data if applicable (like farm, or crop), and how much you have and then have a roasting side that auto adjusts your amounts when you do a roast.
EG: Enter roast of Cuba Turquino - 900g and it will adjust your stock qty accordingly.
Set alerts for when your Peru Grace Estate is getting low and have an auto link to the wishing well thread!

      Stuff like that!

      Id pay $2 for it.

      Brett.

I like where this is going
        - Keep all beans in phone with all relevant info
        - Enter a roast (with weight which reduces inventory)
        - Enter roast detail associated with bean
        - enter cupping notes associated with roast

This sounds brilliant haha, something like this could go really well for cafes/home/work stocking.

If it were up to me however I would be looking into creating an ordering system, there was one i found the other day which looked promising and Im thinking if I can control my stock of beans at home with the app above, and control when I want my coffee ready when I go to a cafe, it would be all fun and no work (which makes homer definately NOT a dull boy)

I already have a spreadsheet that does all this.
Even though my phone is on me most of the time I dont see the need for such an app.

The PC is a lot easier to use for keeping such records.

              Dont we all? ;D
I think it could evolve into a useful app.
Ive been having a think and I reckon the next step is to incorporate use of the camera and barcode technology.
Print out barcodes in Aztec or EZCode (or any format which can be read by the iPhone) and label your beans accordingly, then the app could pre-fill a bunch of stuff when you scan it for roasting and of course, the wi-fi/bluetooth connection to your roast monitor would drag in other stuff.

              Oh the possibilities....

Its nearly enough to make me ditch SAP and learn Objective C

                Re: iPhone App

Id like to see something like a Rate a Cafe system, but that only lets CS Old Smokeys or people with good knowledge of coffee rate them, not the great unwashed public...that way, you (reasonably) know youre going to a cafe that has been recommended by someone with a bit of knowledge.

Also a fast link to Bean Bay to order stuff so that, if youre on the move, you can still log in and place an order.

Also, as someone mentioned above, direct GPS locator of sponsors.

                My three wish list ones!

                Cheers

Lol - I also work on SAP - maybe configure a brand new SAP instance with Iphone integration that can do everything

We are actually playing around with pushing reports from Solution Manager out to Iphones. Seen it done! ;D

                      Re: iPhone App

I like the idea of an iPhone app that I can record my bean quantity, how much roasted, how roasted, blends and tasting notes.

One thing for ease of entry (and speed) have the ability to enter/view in Landscape mode.

FWIW I have an idea for a simplistic app, but due to not being able to find a way to make/develop it (like some sort of template) will have ot just dream about it for now.

As someone who travels a lot i quite like the various "Find a Cafe" apps on the iPhone. The ones with geolocation enabled make it much easier to land in a new place and find a decent brew.
Its especially good when the back-end database gets updated by people who are actually passionate about their coffee, rather than people who just like the atmosphere etc.

+1 to this; smartphones excel at this kinda thing - on-the-fly access to lightweight content. Im often too disorganised to think about where Im going to get a decent coffee before I travel, so end up trawling through the relevant state subforum on CS for recommendations in Safari - which is ok provided I have a decent 3G signal, but a really good review app would make life that much easier.

Building a good community of like-mided people is the biggest hurdle for this kind of app/site IMO; CS has that part down so the signal-to-noise ratio should be favourable if only CS members could submit reviews. Maybe even weight ratings by CS post count?
