able to casually browse the net on the couch, use it as a nice recipe book in the kitchen
Cool - a bigger screen version of my 2002 vintage iPaq (which I use for the same)

Im sure Apple will have another mass market category killer - their successful strategy (since the Newton) of waiting 5-10 years for the technology to mature, sexing it up, adding a content store, reasonable prices and lots of hip marketing.

        Re: iPad

I am a MAC fan (have an imac, iphone etc). And love most apple products

I dont see the point of the iPad in its current form. I think that in one or two generations, Apple will get there.

I bought my wife an amazon kindle - which is a brilliant device - designed for reading books. I dont think the IPAD can compete with the fact she charges the battery once a month, does not have to worry about her eyes etc.

The apple does not compete with the kindle, does not have the full function of a laptop and does not offer more than a phone (other than size).

I would not buy one. I think it will be interesting to see whether their name alone can drive sales.

            Re: iPad

I think they will fit in great in schools. Interactive text books, computing power better than a graphing calculator with a touch screen the user interface can change to suit the application (note things like graphing calculators become just applications rather than independent device that cost $150 or so) and we havent even considered that it can connect to both wireless and 3g. As an educational device it is cheap compared to any other device that can do those thing and as for netbooks and blackberries I mean those things are like sooooo five minutes ago.

Sounds like a womans hand bag accessory... :-?

Ben S - I reckon that the Kindle is awesome too and would consider it...but dont have time now to read real books let alone the ones on a screen! It might be even more tempting a device once you can download your fave magazine on it too...

Apple sells estimated 120,000 iPads on the first day!

Initial estimates show that over 120,000 iPads were pre-ordered on friday, according to Investor Village. And if you thought the iPad would be a fail, you have no idea. It was also estimated that Apple made over 75 million dollars of only pre-ordered iPads, in just one day!
