Re: Fishing Kayak - Questions..
AM I have seen one of the double Hobi pedal kayaks with one person in it and it was still very quick and easy to handle on the modest flowing river where we were camped. One up he was able to easily outrun my wife and I upstream, but we were in normal paddle kayak. OTOH yes the Hobi things are relatively expensive, but if ya wanna fish, hands free is great.

Re: Fishing Kayak - Questions..
Helped a mate hash this creation up. He won the motor and bought the yak second hand. Would cost around $1500 to setup if you got a second hand yak. He paid about $700 for the Yak I think. We need to add a Fin of sorts to help it steer. The pivot point of the yak is where the motor is so steering the motor just makes the yak go sideways. Works ok in a bigger area and the pool wasnt ideal!!!!

My setup!!! Have used 200l of fuel since Ive owned it I reckon and that is about 8 months. Have used it average 2 times a week doing probably 10-20km a trip. Small engines use bugger all fuel and with my foot controlled electric motor on the front dont have to use the outboard once im at my spot.
Sorry a bit off topic lol

Chase the wife ?????? What for ?
If she has not been good enough... She misses out.
Besides... The Yak will allow me some freedom and no fuel...

If you make it a habit overchoke a small outboard you will get all the excercise you need pulling it over trying to make it fire. Problem solved!!!

A friend suggested to me that there are two great days as a boatowner; the day you buy it and the day you sell it

AM, a kayak is just another boat. And of course, you know that the word boat is just an acronym for, "Break Out Another Thousand"Originally posted by 143B32302718343B34323038303B21550 link=1278285534/5#5 date=1278410814$$$ is going higher every time I look..

$$$ is going higher every time I look..
Single Vs Double is still a toss.
Have decided that I will need to build my own loading system.. Getting on top of teh car etc is a issue now and as and if I get older... Something to consider.
Nice... But it all adds up :-)Originally posted by 506F696E737445587563767F1A0 link=1278285534/3#3 date=1278378614Hobie with the mirage drive

Re: Fishing Kayak - Questions..
I flirted with the idea of a kayak but then I bought a boat. My mate has just setup a kayak and lets just say that if it is convenience you want buy a boat. If I was setting up a kayak it would probably set me back around $3,500. I know that wont buy a boat but that is a lot of money for one person. Havent seen a 2 man kayak setup for fishing. I would say that 1 person in a 2 man kayak would greatly affect the performance as the centrepoint with one person wouldnt be ideal.
If you are really keen on a Yak and can afford one get a Hobie with the mirage drive. That is the one where you pedal for propulsion. Not only is it far more efficient but it frees your hands up for fishing or other things.

Fishing Kayak - Questions..
A question or two for any experienced CSér who has or has been involved with this sort of thing ?
Fishing Kayak:
1: Pros Vs Cons
2: Single Vs Double VS one person using a Double
3: Getting on / off the car... High 4x4
4: On top Vs inside type ?
5: Sail
6: Shade options
7: Powered or NOT
8: Short excursions out to sea (small close reefs - off sunshine cost beaches..)
8: Any thing else ya might think has a significant impact...
I did a lot of fishing in PNG and the TOP End of Qld in small flat bottom punts usually with an outboard motor...
These days my middle section is getting a bet excessive and many of the water ways / fishing sports are becoming only accessible by direct access...
Option: Another coffee machine Vs something that may have other uses...
Where we go on Hols and or on the odd trip there is usually water and I would like to make more use of that feature...
The Issue of Double is that I have mates as will as my daughter / Wife that I would like to be able to have with me at times... SHARE the experience and some of the great views..
A: Water proof camera Vs water proof shield
B: Small portable burner for that much needed coffee on the water.. Beans and Hand grinder is a done deal.. Just need hot water...
