I tend to always have one of my kegs here with a coffee porter in it. Last time I added a double shot into the fermentation stage and next time I am trying ground beans in the mash.

There are some very nice coffee beers out there...including mine!
Let me know how it goes too

Looking forward to tasting this one.
Yea, It wasnt the BEST dark ale Ive ever had, but I was pretty impressed.
Its very sweet and has a quite robust coffee flavour (which is what makes it that little bit difference to other dark brews) with a snappy cocoa aftertaste .
Id be happy to buy it again.

Looking forward to tasting this one.

    This is true
Ive been enjoying dark ales for a while now and I just found this one to have a particular Robust coffee flavour.

I havent tried "longshot" yet but have enjoyed a few coffee stouts and porter styles. Most memorable being Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel.

Ive also been working with a mate on a variety of brewing and related projects and have made several batches of Yirgacheffe Pale Ale and are working on some other ideas too. Its good fun!

A beer made by one of the top brewers in the US uses CP made from Finca Vista Hermosa, a bean I reviewed on here some years back. The flavor of the beans comes through very nicely in the beer.

Here are some specs on it:

STYLE: Coffee flavored American Brown Ale
MALT: Pale Ale, Aromatic, Medium Crystal, Dark Crystal, Oats and Chocolate
    HOPS: Columbus,Willamette
    COFFEE: Guatemalan Finca Vista Hermosa
    YEAST: English Ale
    OG: 14º Plato
    ABV: 5.5% v/v
    COLOR: 45 ºSRM
    IBU: 45

Java "Yet another use for CP!" phile

Tried Longshot a coffee infused dark ale last night, it was DELICIOUS!!
haha.  I only had the one, and I think its probably a good thing as it was quite sweet.

Its the Brain child of the matilda bay brewery (forsters) and tobys estate..
The idea was born over a beer between Matilda Bay head brewer, Scott Vincent, and gourmet coffee roaster, Toby Smith, after comparing stories about roasting malt and coffee beans.

While hints of coffee isnt a new thing for dark beers, it was deffinately a more prominent flavour in this brew.
nice drop that id suggest any CSer who sucks on the occasional frothie to give it a go.
Adding coffee to your beer (at fermentation) is a fairly standard thing to do. There is even a style called "coffee stout". The standard way is to pull your shot(s) and add them to the liquor at the start of the process. The fact that they are calling this a coffee "infused" beer makes me think that they are adding the beans or grinds to to the mash (crushed grain) as its being soaked or adding the beans to the liquor, post-fermentation. I tend to think it is the latter.
Did it have a distinct coffee aroma?
Did it hold a head well or lose it quickly?
Answers yes and no (head quickly subsided) will confirm this Its all academic, because I know I wont have the time to imitate it even though I love dark beers ;D

    Sounds Delicious Graham!
Id be interested to see if it would work with a whisky, i think if you got the mix right, it would be great!.. i know you can buy coffee flavoured vodka, but im not much of a vodka drinker, and im not sure about this artificial coffee flavouring business.. far as im concerned you may aswell make an instant cappucino with metho rather than water. ;D

What if you were in a hurry and didnt have time for them side by side?
Would it be an acceptable option?
[smiley=smiley.gif] Definately - I think I infused the beans for a couple of weeks, found it a little too overporwering, so diluted it with extra muscat. Ultimately I think the problem was it possibly needed even more dilution to allow the coffes taste to be more subtle

I have a 22litre cask of Muscat which I maintain and attempted a coffee bean infusion with a bottle extracted from there. A bit of a failure in the end, it had a definite coffee flavour, but preferred the muscat on its own or alongside an espresso shot.

Mt Tamborine Coffee Plantation in conjunction with Eagle Heights Brewery did a dark stout  last year that was absolutely unreal. I think it came in at 8 per cent ,wickedly smooth and totally organic .I still have 4 tallies left.
    sounds delicious!
