Yeah but actually read the article. They said that he had 50 picograms in his blood of which there are 1 trillion picograms per gram of blood. The antidoping authorities require 400 times this amount.
Technically not correct. Per your own quote:

    Quote:
The concentration found by the laboratory was estimated at 50 picograms which is 400 times less than what the antidoping laboratories accredited by WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) must be able to detect,
In order to be accredited a lab must be able to detect 400 times what was found in Contadors samples. That does not mean that anything less than that is not considered to be a violation.

Java "What a dope (Contador, not the poster.)!" phile

Going to be an interesting story : Not good for the sport and any potential or current sponsors either.

First it was unsportsmanlike like regarding the chain incident

    Now this
Contadors positive test: Should we really be surprised?

    News Snip from the story
The news that a three-time Tour de France champion has tested positive to a banned substance spread like wildfire in cyberspace but was still greeted with little more than minor surprise.

For a sport which has grappled with the spectre of drugs and substance abuse for more than a decade, the revelation that this years Tour winner Alberto Contador returned a sample with traces of clenbuterol on 21 July was not an earth-shattering development for those who had already lost faith in the sport.

From chain cheat to drug cheat. It really was too good to be true, was one snappy response on Twitter to the news, in reference to Contadors controversional tactics in a key mountain stage to burn off rival Andy Schleck when the Luxembourger suffered the misfortune of his chain dislodging.

Racing bikes yourself Dewy you would know dont trust what a bike rider says(about the race or how he is going) while he is racing.
    Yeah, for sure.

Makes me think he hit a rock/bump and inadvertently or prematurely flicked the gear paddle and the chain jumped straight over the small ring and off!!  ( I agree dannyh! )

Hes not going to admit to that is he!!!

Hopefully both Sanchez and Schleck can get up for a crack at the Vuelta.

I have sram red. The shifting is so smooth, but I can imagine the chain might drop if shifting down from the big ring at the front and going over a bump at the same time. BTW I didnt see the incident.

Absolutely. These blokes are made of steel (once its implanted) and have a freakish mindset.

When I first saw the incident I thought the back wheel kicked up because of a jammed chain, not a bump, and after watching that again Im still not convinced it was a bump. Did anyone see other riders back wheels jump?
I was fairly certain, but now not so sure...   :-/ :-?

Although it seemed as if Schleck had his mechanical when he switched gears, the now former yellow jersey said he didnt know what happened. "I dont know the reason, I only know that I dropped the chain," said Schleck. "I wasnt happy, of course. It is how it is. Thats cycling."

All opinions a valid some right some not so I take no offence whatsoever
Ah good. I too wrote most of my reply after the stage early this morning, with one over caffeinated and four inebriated friends barking their views at me.

So if I got it wrong with the gear changes I apologise (but it was 1am )
Who knows if either of us are right...

I based my view on analysis of the vid, the fact that AS was out of the saddle on full gas and so wouldnt make a drastic gear change. There was also this quote on CyclingNews...

Til then mon amis...theres always the Vuelta!
Well, we might have to start up another thread for this.

Who could win it? Id have to guess it would be someone who hasnt already competed for GC in the tour, and maybe not even the giro.

    Any tips?
I wonder if Astana would let Vino race as tour leader? Or maybe RadioShack could field one of theyre gun GC contenders?
    Interesting...
