Thats because the young coders and page designers think its the be all end all and dont put themselves in the users position. :Originally posted by 46736466566E736C606D65010 link=1280495110/54#54 date=1282452803Its amazing how fast many web sites open without flash!

Re: iPhone 4 snobs?
No, I havent installed that. I do most of my web browsing on my computer and havent as yet noticed the lack of Flash on the iPhone. If and when I do, Ill give it a try.Originally posted by 6A6F6C7979687F6168740D0 link=1280495110/53#53 date=1282368049Greg have you installed the app on the jailbreak that allows the use of flash player? Nothing gets on my nerves more about the iphone/ipad than the inability of these devices to accommodate flash.
Philosophically though, Im with Steve Jobs on this. HTML5 does a much better job and isnt as much of a resource hog. I even have a "flash stopper" on the computer that allows me to view flashes one at a time--my choice. All the other flashes (usually ads) just come up with a grey box and the word "flash". Its amazing how fast many web sites open without flash!

Re: iPhone 4 snobs?
My iPhone4 arrived on Thursday, and was completely jailbroken and customised by Friday night. I love making these little computers do what I want rather than what Apple thinks is enough. Its been a long time since I did any formal IT work (would you believe programming in IBM Assembler?)Originally posted by 5B535A5443434458360 link=1280495110/50#50 date=1282318677Went to the Apple Store down the road, had a play with the iPhoney 4 and found it to blitz the Galaxy in speed and multi-taskingm but again proprietary is what will kill the iPhones, esp for IT people like myself who like to tinker around under the hood.
Its funny, Apples computers are highly customisable without jailbreaking and yet they dont like it to happen to their mobile package. In the US at least, the manager of the Millenium copyright legislation has said that both jailbreaking and customer unlocking is completely legal and rejected Apples submissions outright!
How much tinkering to you want to do? Jailbreaking was a 2 minute visit to a website. With the correct tools on the phone and on the computer the root system and all files are accessible and easily modifiable. There is a HUGE jailbreaking community on the net, with an estimate that about 10% of phones are free of Apples constraints. This community also makes the iPhones safer from virus attacks than Apple does!
If any of this is of real interest, I suggest you visit ModMyi, or the Big Boss. Both sites seem very reputable and eschew piracy quite vehemently.

Re: iPhone 4 snobs?
I agree with that! I love the HTC Desire and HTC Hero except when using them they seem to not be able to quite keep up with their own software. Although being really nicely designed software - its not quite flawless.Originally posted by 3D353C322525223E500 link=1280495110/50#50 date=1282318677iPhoney 4 and found it to blitz the Galaxy in speed and multi-taskingm but again proprietary is what will kill the iPhones, esp for IT people like myself who like to tinker around under the hood.
The iPhone 4, although jailbreakable and modifiable - runs almost perfectly because its paired with software designed purely for it.

Re: iPhone 4 snobs?
After owning Nokias most of my life I have a Blackberry Bold - for the last 2 years. Good phone but clunky. I have just bought my cheese a HTC Legend and its a great phone and very solid. A week or so ago I ordered a 32g iphone 4. I think most of the reasons why in the past I avoided them have been resolved and I have, subject to those issues, always been keen to try doing to the dark side.
I will let you know what I think when I get it.
Cheers

Re: iPhone 4 snobs?
I preffer that Apple makes the phone and the software and restricts you because it means that if anything were to go wrong or even you needed support for anything you can always go back to Apple - and also you can expect that everything should run smoothly (obviously it doesnt always.. technology is technology after all, its developing constantly).Originally posted by 614E4459200 link=1280495110/47#47 date=1281360854"we own you"

Re: iPhone 4 snobs?
Well, I tossed and turned and the iPhone 4 ended up equal second choice with the HTC Desire (only available on tight-Telstra plans).Originally posted by 1702100B0A06630 link=1280495110/23#23 date=1280925716Eyeing the same phone Andy and equally annoyed at the Optus deal. The problem is that I think it may well be more expensive when it hits the other networks - Vodafone suggested $0 on a $79 cap.Originally posted by 210E0419600 link=1280495110/17#17 date=1280580883On the back of a successful month of sales through Optus, Samsung have decided to extend the exclusive deal for the Galaxy S to be Optus-only for another month, ending 31st August.
But damn it is a nice phone!
The Galaxy S on an Optus business plan of $89/mth with 3 months free works out to $78/mth and has unlimited calls to mobile and landlines, txt, video calls, voice mail and 3gb of data (3gb pretty much unlimited for me). A top phone, on an unlimited call plan for $20 a week seems like fair value to me and no hidden bills at the end of the month.
My new phone arrives tomorrow. Samsung Galaxy S, not an iPhone4, in fact Android=Anti-iPhone I think. So yep, Im really off topic in the off-topic area again. Ill start a new thread when it arrives with thoughts.

Re: iPhone 4 snobs?
I love my iPhone 3Gs. I got mine in March after my sony erriccson bit the dust for a second time, just after the plan ran out.
I love the way texting works with following the conversation and the keyboard is big enough for me to see. I dont have too many apps yet, but have a couple of highly addictive games. Be warned - Angry birds is very maddeningly addictive ;D
As a mac user I just love that I have a phone that finally syncs to my computer without any problems.
Lacehim, the phone is very straightforward to use and you can get the manuals here.
http://support.apple.com/manuals/iphone/
And there is an online support where people can ask questions and get help and advice here. You need and Apple dot com account though - which is free

Re: iPhone 4 snobs?
Back in 2007 I bought the original iPod Touch when it came out - the one without the speaker and before the "App Store" even existed!Originally posted by 052234263E4D0 link=1280495110/40#40 date=1281224489Ive never JBd because Ive never felt the need to
I jailbroke that device because there were no such things as games on iPod or iPhone until 08 with the introduction of iPhone 3G and the App Store.
Since the App Store I restored and have never JBd again. My iPhone is running OS 4 and so far I havent found anything I need that it doesnt have.
