Yeah but why not get a lancer if thats what you are after. I reckon they would have to be a better car and put together better too. Thats just me bing bias I guess. Just that the WRX interiors look so low rent.

Weight distribution, my main gripe with all transverse AWD cars.

Why do you think its Ford vs Holden these days, they couldnt handle being beaten by the little guys
Ahh yes. The old Aussie V8 battle. Id love to see the days of the Minis at Bathurst against the big boys. Although Ford would be stupid to run their V8 if that was the case. Theyd be better off running the 4L turbo engine. Lighter and more powerful.

On that note, I think its a rort how the FPV 6 turbos are detuned to make less power than the V8s just for marketing spin.

I think you might want to read some recent motoring literature. Fords new supercharged V8 might just have what it takes!!

I saw an ad on TV not long ago that there will be a 12hr Bathurst this weekend.

There will be an FPV GT out there. Not sure if it is the new V8 or the old one.

Ive seen the new V8s. I would be interested to drive one with the new 5L engine. But I still think that Ford underquote the figures for the sixes so that their flagship models arent overshadowed. [Take the new GT-P @ 570nm, vs the F6 @ 565nm. 5nm extra torque... Really?]

no chance... wont dispute the possibility that the 6s are understated, but the consensus on the new 8s is that theyre also very understated - probably more than the 6s.

when the turbo 6s started to become popular, a whole new 6 vs 8 rivalry began (or was rekindled). IMO this has led to a perception amongst some that 6s are better than 8s by definition, but the forced induction on the 6 effectively meant that it was the bigger engine of the two so no surprise that it performed better. now theyre both charged, so theres no logical reason to just assume that the 6s are still the better performing unit. performance tests on the new 8 pretty much prove that idea wrong anyway.

there is still no substitute for cubes for outright grunt. technology and forced induction helped smaller capacity engines outperform old-tech 8s, but chuck the same technology at a decent v8 and theyll blow away just about anything else. bang for buck is still very much on the side of 4s and 6s though for cheap performance mods...

HAHAHA "Cooper69S" Is that why the cooper S has 1275 instead of 850cc!!!!

The last article I read on the 6 turbo and blown 8 had the turbo running the fastest time ever seen by motor magazine for an australian car "exceptions to HSVs 427. It broke into the 12s. I think though that the consensus was that it was easier to get off the mark. The 8 was a dog because it would either be a slow start or fry the tyres.

haha yeah ;D and why be happy with 1275cc when you can go .060 overbore and have a whole 1330 of them... The Cooper S was awesome but unfortunately I dont have it any more, will have to change my avatar and username one day unless I can find the car and buy it back... tempting but probably too expensive now...

I started thinking I might need to retract what I said about the 8s performing better :-[ but I think in the context of what I was commenting on, its still sort of valid. From what Ive seen, just about all the 335kw GTs are punching out dyno numbers that no stock F6 has ever seen, so the idea that F6 power is being understated to protect the reputation of the GT is unlikely. And its not that theyre "detuned" either, since most of the tuners are still able to get more from just a tune on the Coyote 5L than the same on the XR6T/F6.

As you mentioned, a lot of the apparently poor results in quarter mile testing and the likes are attributed to launch difficulties, so it might be that owners of the new blown 8s need to practice their technique some more, or buy the bigger stickier rubber they need that Fords bean counters didnt approve. But there doesnt seem to be any doubt that the blown 8 is more powerful than the turbo 6.
