    Re: Problem laptop pc.

Im really lost now melbuurn :-[

Got a bunch of things on my desktop.
two autoruns, avira, boot, index, initrd, antivir, isolinux in two forms, license, vmlinuz, welcome, avupdate, html, licenses, after i loaded the cd into the laptop.

At this stage i dont really want to fix the laptop for fear of running out of time and patience/mental health.
As long as the roast monitor works when i eventually get to use it in anger, then its ok.

Well, maybe i can come back on the weekend and take in any more suggestions.
Thanks for putting up with me.

    Gary

      Gary...

Not required to load onto the PC...

The trick is that when you burn the CD (Use CdburnerXP) you make it a bootable CD/DVD.

Then when teh laptop is booting and you hit the right key stroke, it will boot from the CD/DVD and allow you to run any number of cleaning and virus scans - WITHOUT your laptop files and or allow the virus to take over.

One needs a clean system / tool to allow one, to clean a dirty system. Thus the reason to boot from the cd/dvd.

Shame ya were not just next door... Do this sort of thing so often these days... But while some fixes are simple, many times one really does need to be hands on.

couldnt agree more with you AM.

Being an IT Consultant for close on 10 years now and this is something I see quite a lot. Luckily though, my clients now use my cloud offering where I tightly control what they can/cant get to!

          Re: Problem laptop pc.

I hate suggesting it but reinstalling windows would be easier than all the troubleshooting, then you have a clean install. Then you can load the likes of AVG & Malwarebytes and scan all your backed up data before copying it back. Thats what I would do.

Might take a while, but its a damn sight less frustrating when you dont know the ins and outs of anOS.

Just remember to backup all your Data and download all the drivers from the laptop suppliers website prior to re installing windows so they are ready to install.

            Me too,

Sounds like its a mess. Clean install, load malware and AV stuff, run the updates with .net and java and then load Andys software....

You then have a perfect roast monitor and can disconnect from the nasty net

              Re: Problem laptop pc.

If you can get to the net at all, boot into safe mode with networking and search google for "house call" its a web based virus solution from trend micro and is free.
I have used many times to clear malware and trojans of friends pcs

                Download malawarebytes 100% free.

The techs at the shops will do two passes with Mbytes and charge you $100 bucks.
