  • Queensland Floods

I hope that all of our northern coffee buddies are able to keep their coffee and themselves high and dry.

Down in the pleasant southern climate our TV news is being dominated by horrific pictures of what is happening up north.

I have lived in northern NSW towns and have seen floods, but nothing like this one.

The best wishes to all in soggy Queensland and north NSW.

May you, your families and friends keep safe and well and keep your coffee supplies and equipment high and dry.

Another thought to our WA friends with their bushfires.

I love a sunburnt country etc.

The weather and the impacts are exceeding everyones expectations and previous experience.

What happened in the Ranges yesterday and in the Brisbane valley has shocked many. Many of those lost and or missing were not doing the wrong thing - but were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

We are expecting more of the same and have our fingers crossed that the missing are found safe.....

I am not able to return home (like many others) and can only hope and trust that my place remains safe. It is a frustrating time for all involven and my best wishes and prayers go out to all affected.

Stay safe is the main message to take home.

We have had so much rain that the ducks have decided to get out of town

        Its bloody wet
Even as I write its pouring down by the bucket load outside

I feel for the people that are completely cut off and homeless from the floods
        Our prayers are with you

Yeppers, its a bit damp around our parts at the moment! Fortunately, where we live in Ipswich, were not flood (well, at the moment, anyway!) affected but there are plenty of places on our doorstep that are. I came home from work this morning because I didnt want to risk staying in the city and not being able to get home due to rising floodwater.

My thoughts are, in particular, with Mal at the moment - I hope you and Mrs Mal are okay out there, if you still have power/internet and are reading this!

Side note: its bloody difficult to roast at the moment because the humidity seems to be sitting around the 95% mark. It keeps on changing the profile of my roasting...grr!!! >

Hope you are okay where you are, AM - are Mrs AM and mini-AMs with you? If not, please pass on my number if they get stuck and need a hand. Ill send Pete with a Rubber Ducky (I wish!)

          Cheers
          Di

            Re: Queensland Floods

My sister and mother live in Highfields just north of Toowoomba but being on higher ground, were not at risk. Twelve months ago, she was worried about whether there would be enough water in town to boil a kettle, now this.

Toowoomba is isolated now with another 5 days of stormy weather expected.

You Queenslanders are always trying to outdo the rest of the country, arent you?

Hope all returns to normal soon with expectations of bumper years of harvest to compensate for the drought and floods and a return to beautiful one day, perfect the next.

Have my EM6910 but running out of beans....  Have 400g of MM but 10days of rest needed (moffit beach).

While I HAVE a 4x4 my wife has a little car and we will be looking at getting back to Brisbane much later this week.

Locals in my area are not responding to calls and news reports are advising that some are being evacuated!!!!   One can only keep fingers crossed as any thing else is not productive.....

The biggest pain is rubber necks.  They cause travel isues and get in the way.

My suburb is on flood alert
On the 1974 flood water levels and if that is reached we will have an instant lake on our from doorstep
If the water level is greater than the 1974 level we will go under or partly under

The green coffee beans and the roaster have been moved to the high part of the house

Hardly a time for frivolity but at least the coffees safe! Hope you pull through with as little damage as possible. Stay safe.

                          Re: Queensland Floods

I am so shocked and amazed at how fast it has all been happening! Where I am is safe for now, but my heart and prayers go out to all those affected by this disaster! While the waters will recede eventually, it will take longer for supplies to get to those in need as the state recovers.
Some friends of mine in Toowoomba had flood waters reach up to about 1mm from their house, and were very fortunate to have dug some trenches in their yard and dismantled the garden.
I believe the flooding is going to affect a fair portion of northern NSW as well.

                            Re: Queensland Floods

Normally I am looking at the water running past my door. But we are relatively dry, this time.

I spent a week in Rocky helping the locals and now am watching my family and friends in Brisbane and other areas getting a belting.

Best wishes to all the CoffeeSnobs in jeopardy hope and pray all ends well.

                              Hi All
I was sitting in my comfortable air-conditioned home in Perth watching the tragedy unfold in Queensland and thought "get off your backside and do something". Not a lot I could do from here other than make a donation to the relief fund, so I went out and did just that.
My thoughts and prayers to all those affected, look after each other.
