Much appreciate your very kind offer Di but were pretty right now. Our local neighbourhood pitched in and helped everyone out who needed it. To look at our street now any unknowing person would be pushed to realise that wed even had heavy rain, to say nothing about flood.

Glad to hear that you guys are OK mate, that was a pretty rough session there in Ipswich too. Has Pete been volunteered to assist with the clean-up in Ipswich? Our young bloke Ken has been part of the disaster recovery crew since Thursday last week I think. Sure was/is a lot of work to do though and for some poor buggers, it must be very dispiriting and heart-breaking to see their homes and then their lives in such a state.

I guess time will make it easier to handle, hope so anyway.

All the best Di and take care mate....

      Mal.

Mal, its good to see you back posting on CS.

I hope that Coffee Snobs everywhere are keeping themselves, family and coffee gear above water.

While Brisbane is drying out, others are in the poo. Not only Qld, but many in Vic and NSW are getting their worst flood for a very long time.

Many who have been flooded are not insured or find out there insurance does not cover them.

Also will the authorities let those who lost their houses rebuild in flood prone areas, down on a slab or up in the air in a Queenslander or not at all?

It also will take years to get a builder. Many builders will take the opportunity and move north from other states, including many shonky ones from here in Sydney.

It is so bizarre, me sitting comfortably, high and dry, drinking my fantastic coffee in a pleasant temp of 25 (the air not the coffee), with a gentle breeze and sunshine while the TV shows the hell that some of our fellow Aussies are going through.

I must go now and roast some more beans. A hard decision to make when I have about 10 origins to chose from.

          Barry

            Thanks mate...

I am also very glad that I am now able to do so. Was getting very worried there for a while....

A lot of people are still doing it very tough and need a lot more help to get them back on their feet. Very proud to see our Site Sponsors and Andy taking such a selfless and proactive stand to channel what help we CSers can contribute.... 8-)

Must admit I feel pretty helpless, but so as to do something, 100% of the takings from our e-shop until close of trade on 22/1 are going straight to the flood relief appeal.
              Thanks for your generosity CSers.

With your spend up in the shop since the above post, we raised $511.50 and have donated $515 to the Premiers fund this morning.

Im hoping our auctions might take us over the $2k mark...

Nice work guys. Love the way Aussies band together to support unknown mates  8-)

                Re: Queensland Floods

                Hi,

It has been a busy couple of weeks for Team Gilkatho.  Our showroom and warehouse took a considerable amount of water to the ceiling of the showroom.  Thanks to the efforts of emergency services, local authorities and hardworking staff & volunteers we did make preparations and a big cleanup.

Our business is back operating from our Milton office.  The upstairs workshop and offices were untouched.  Another 12cms of water and it would have been bad.  If you look at the above picture of our office, the water came to the top of the word COFFEE on the main sign.

We may delay refitting the showroom.  We think that the efforts of tradesmen and resources have other priorities at present.  The devastation in the wider community is significant.

In summary, our business location took quite a hit. In spite of this we are operating at Milton, we have stock of most lines, we have technicians in the field and we have our lives.

Our thoughts are with those far less fortunate than ourselves.

                Wayne

                  Re: Queensland Floods

Coffee snobs in north Queensland may have the huge Tropical Cyclone Yasi heading their way.

Yasi is expected to come ashore between Townsville and Cairns within the next few days.

I heard a weather man say “Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.”

We can only hope that it fizzles out before coming onto land.

Queensland has had enough floods this summer without this.

All CSs up there, keep safe, stay dry.

After the news reports tonight, I highly doubt that will happen. My sister is in Edmonton, just south of Cairns. Their house survived Larry, but that was pretty intense. This should be far worse, as it will be a direct hit on their house.

All my thoughts are with my family up there, as well as everyone else, including all coffeesnobs.

                      Re: Queensland Floods

After Yasi etc the focus may change a bit.

However while some are up and running many are still affected in many ways.

After dropping AMD off for Ballet this morning we had a coffee and on chatting to Andrew (Roaster at the Vs) he was stuck as transport from down south has meant that critical  supplies of particular Greens had not arrived due to flow on effects.  Needless to say we had a livley disscussion as to how and who could assist.... On a quick count back... I could not assist as my home supply did not extend into the number of digits needed of a particular bean

On my way home I dropped off his card with C8H10N4O2....

While Business is Business, it is great to see Sponsors and staff assisting where possible to assist others where the floods have had a impact ...

I say WELL DONE C8H10N4O2 and Di Bella Coffee.

I would like to think it is the Coffee culture that will see these people and Businesses grow; as they walk the talk, not just talk the talk....

A flash mob in Perth to benefit Qld floods.

This is fantastic - have look and pass it on.

On Saturday a week or so ago, at Karrinyup Shopping Centre (yes, Western Australia) the Variety Club Youth Choir organized a FLASH MOB where they all were incognito in the Food Hall, and started standing up in groups singing "We are Australians"

The purpose was to raise money for the QLD floods.

Note some were in wheel chairs. That didnt stop them singing.

Each time you click on, money is raised through google ads, SO PLEASE WATCH!!!!!! It is a beaut way of supporting those poor ozzies over on the other side of our country. So CLICK away.

As I wiped the tears from my eyes, I sent the link and an explanation out to my mailing list. As an ex-firefighter, a musician, and a proud resident of this planet, it was a beautiful thing to watch and made me want to move to your lovely country.
