  • SHipping from Europe?

    Hi,
Does anyone have experience shipping the slow and cheap way (if it exists) from Europe? I thought some of you may have experience shipping machines from europe, and while I am not shipping a machine, it would give me a bit of an idea.
    Thanks

Depends on what it is, how heavy/bulky it is?

If you are going to top the $1k mark get onto a customs broker and get them to get you a rate they will also then handle import paperwork, duty and GST etc. In my experience they will be as good or better to deal with than trying to deal with the freight companies direct unless you are worth lots of $$/year to them (they screw little guys 4 fun).

Depending on source country in the EU and parcel style I also simply use post, even when sent "surface mail" it generally gets sent air standby based on my timing (2-3 weeks for most). Downside there is if you cant fill out the customs paperwork yourself you still need to engage a broker to do it for you anyway and freight or post can be fairly similar in price.

And before any want to be "experts" chime in make yourself aware of the extra costs associated with importing such as transfer fees, duty, gst, brokers etc when deciding if it is worth it.

Thanks for the info. I want to get a lever group head, which will be at most around 15kg and fit in a box 50x40x30 I think. Total value will only be maybe 300 Euro, so I will check out the post options.

8-) Sounds like an interesting play and design session for you. I think most of the commercial Lever heads are around 9 or 10kg so 15 packed would be a fair weight to work on.

Pallet is the smallest of teh cost efficient methods but a Container makes it even better.

I know a few who buy a few things and put into storage until they have enough to make a shipment. Works if your buying lots and time it not critical.

Lowest list rate 15kg global-economy is around GBP125 with only nominal insurance from UK.
We irregularly bring some 2kg product from UK. In last years it seems postage has increased faster then the A$ rose to compensate. Now courier is not that much more for small parcels.

            cheers, GM

My grinder came out of Italy.

Weight was given as 11kg and shipped via UPS. Cost was 75 euros organised completely by the shop selling it.

Got to track it all over the place like a kidnapped garden gnome (although I received no postcards from it ;D).

Arrived in a stupidly large box (the Macap one seems stupidly large) but intact. Cubic weight may or I would imagine will play a part.

Your lever dimensions are considerably smaller lending to less cost.

              Arrived in 10 days.

              Chris
