Gee BB lucky you I would notice  compared to my ADSL home office service your speeds are:
Sometimes I have to share it with 900 other people

I think that most people find their own specific "bandwidth tolerance point", I think mine is about 4Mb/s.

Sadly for many country areas the bandwidth is usually updated from "pathetically slow" to "would have been OK a couple of years ago".

what prices are NBN in your area
Depends on which ISPs will be offering Fibre plans in PBs area. Likely to be one of Telstra, Optus and iiNet.

The main problem for rurals will be whether we are pushed to satellite instead of fibre or even fixed wireless
This is from the HarbourSat site (one of the Sat vendors selected by NBN)

Access to the NBN will be delivered through three types of technologies:

Fibre optic cables will be used to connect up to approximately 93% of Australian premises, capable of delivering speeds of 100 Megabits per second

In mostly rural and remote areas where physical connection is not possible by fibre, premises will first be connected by advanced wireless technology, capable of delivering speeds of 12 Megabits per second.

Where fibre or advanced wireless connectivity is not possible, premises will be connected by satellite technology, capable of delivering speeds of 12 Megabits per second.

Thats quite a bit faster than that offered by satellite internet services now.

          Thanks Pavoniboy.

A good number of people will be looking forward to the NBN rollout in the same fervour as the soon to be released Breville 900 machine

            Re: Internet Speed.

Heres my connection at home. I live on a fibre to the home estate (telstra smart community), so no NBN here. Hopefully though one day I can switch to a provider other then telstra.

One from late last year (best one Ive gotten):

One from today (not too great this time):

                  Ah that’s a bit better
That rocks Bean Bear! Certainly a fat pipe and you will have trouble finding any single site to give you that much bandwidth. (curious who the provider is now you hid it though).

I do weep for you. I hope that the NBN and/or the wireless re-hop that Flynn mentioned gets to your area soon.

1 second ping times make most things painful to use, at least with a forum you can open threads in new tabs in the background and read/reply when it suits. Still, 1/2mb down is a lot faster than the fastest home modems were.

Thats a huge gap in performance between Bean Bear@work (micro, not millisecond pings) and Blue House (with pings in seconds)

Not too shabby for regional Victoria.... but still nowhere near the warp speed Andy is getting

Hi Andy, if anyone digs this thread up in a few years they will be amazed that I would brag about such a slow connection and that you would be impressed by it ;D.

How much is enough? The new IPV6 has 2128 addresses, that’s roughly 7 IP address for every atom in every human on earth at the moment, someone sees a need for some future expansion there! Well need some serious bandwidth if even a small fraction of that is utilised, and one day we will have IPV7 (or will they go straight to IPV8 ).
