Re: A Regular Coffee TV Show

I wrote to all the freeTV stations to find out what they thought about having a coffee cultural program. Two commercial stations responded including Channel 10.

I was hoping the government run ABC1 would do such a venture but they responded saying they get a lot of requests for all kinds of things, but they would take my request on board.

Cant say whether Channel 10 acted upon my request or they started it on their own accord.

Ill certainly have a look see with a cuppa in hand.

Re: A Regular Coffee TV Show

      Without knowing of this thread
Today I just happened to be channel surfing after making coffee and settling in to drink it

I stumbled on this show Coffee Culture Channel 10
I missed the first 15 min but the part I did see was very informative
All content was Australian unless I missed something as I got a phone call during the last part of the show

Re: A Regular Coffee TV Show

Watched through the whole program, and found it interesting.
Was aimed at the general public. History of coffee, how coffee was introduced here, the first pioneers of coffee roasting, a little piece on Australias growing region, where Australians lie in consumption per capita, etc etc.

Next slot is next Saturday 1pm with 4 more slots after that.

Would be interesting if other networks catch on to this and do something more specific that us snobs can relate to, like roasting on a domestic scale.

Re: A Regular Coffee TV Show

Paula and I just watched the episode that I recorded today.

It was a very good show. Far less of the "cringe" moments that I expected (but there were a few still).

Perfect magazine style show with content that should appeal to most anyone. I would have liked less a.d.d. style jumpy editing and some more detailed shots of machines and places.

I must say it was cool to get a glimpse of a Roast Monitor probe in action too

Kudos to channel 10 for putting it together.

            Ill record it again.

              Good find Lu.

I just had a look on Ch10s site
              http://ten.com.au/watch-tv-episodes-online.htm

...and the 6 episodes are really 6 parts of todays 1 show... without the ad breaks!

Still a good place to catch it if anyone missed it.

I thought it was put together well for a local doco.
Some good archival footage and some funny old TV ads, makes me want to grab a cup of instant Folgers right now :P

I looked at the TV guide and it doesnt seem to be on again

Watched the Coffee Culture prog. on Ten. Well worth a look.
Access through the above link http://ten.com.au/docos-24348.htm works OK. For some reason going to the Ten Home page Documentaries - Coffee Culture didnt work for me?

Have not had the opportunity to try a Folgers.
It kind of fits in the era of the meat and 3 veg ,clean living, corn pickin family situation.

I think if enough feedback is given to the channel, they could very well continue making it.
Being a commercial station, its based on its existence from commercials, so the more viewers, the more exposure, more consumers showing interest in its products, therefore more chance of follow ups.

They picked a good time for the doco since its at lunchtime, and it kind of makes one feel like a Folgers after that. ;D

Sundays at noon or 1pm would be a good time slot too.

I had the same problem too ** regarding opening the docos.

I agree, but I certainly dont have a ratings box so they dont know I watched it.

                      Bingo.
I left a comment the other day on:
                      http://ten.com.au/docos-24348.htm

I suggest others do the same or email or write or phone.

If we dont tell em that we watched and it was good they wont know.

Re: A Regular Coffee TV Show

                        Thanks Andy.

The bottom line to all this is that we all like to be educated and be entertained in all things coffee.

Australia has come of age in terms of quality coffee.
Like the program mentioned, people are becoming more aware of speciality coffee after being on a lifestyle of Gloria Jeans, McDonalds, instant et al.
So really, its a opportunity there for networks to grab and use it.

Once a regular show gets underway, topics becomes be more specific which will be both beneficial to the masses and for the more engaged like us here.

Ill be on the phone to them.

If others here would like to be visually entertained and educated, let them know.

Lets take Australian coffee media forwards.

No it was one documentary. I think people got confused, as apparently is is split into 6 parts online but it was one complete show
