  • Access to the Good Coffee Where? Section

    Hello CS,

Im curious as to the reason theres a 50 post minimum on the Good coffee where? section in the forum. I feel like i could contribute ALOT more than in any other section as i frequently go around my city drinking coffee. I have also seen some people with <50 posts who have posted there.

Could i possibly get an exemption? I dont really make my own coffee, i just have an appreciation for coffee.

To weed out the spammers, people who spruik their own cafe, people who give out false reviews uh what else... Guys with bad coffee taste?

Thats about all i can think of.

EDIT: Having a few moderators could potentially stop quite a bit of that, and general discussion could also weed out those who lie or whos taste buds love the scent of instant.

        Yes, those are the reasons.

The important one you missed was that after the CoffeeSnobs community has read 50 of your posts in other areas we all have a better idea of your likes, dislikes, experience what you watch on telly... anything that goes to make-up your personality.

We can all then assign a weight to your review.

You need to trust me on this, 6+ years of running the site and you would guess we have tried a couple of different ideas before you joined this month.

For a long time we avoided reviews on CS.  I dont like many (errr maybe thats actualy any) review sites as they all have their quirks, shills and trolls.

The 50 post rule is working a treat on CS and I think it gives some cred to the review area.

At your current post rate you will be posting in there in the next month and by then we will all know you better too.

        Enjoy your coffee journey!

        8-)

The current way is better, moderators dont get paid so why make their job harder so its easier for you?

Youve got 10 so far fractalsonfire now.

Youre doing great. Wont be long before we read your reviews of cafes in your area.

Theres some decent speciality cafes popping up around Perth now.

Moderators hardly ever get paid in any forum, its their job. They do it because they love their forum and they dont want people tainting it with trolling and spamming.

Admittedly since this is a small forum that means finding a suitable number of trustworthy, regular moderators could be hard. But it also means its easier to moderate. Ive seen forums that are much bigger and more populated that have really good moderation systems and you rarely if ever see trolling go unpunished (only the really good and subtle ones get away).

But I accept the rules of the forum, i just think its possible to stop the obvious spammers and trolls. This forum seems like it has a strong foundation of regulars.

I agreed with OP on this matter even tho I fully agree with the reasoning in needing the 50 posts.

I have alot more experience in paying and drinking coffee from others then roasting or brewing my own.

Re: Access to the Good Coffee Where? Section

Personally, I think the 50 plus rule is a good one. I rely on the reviews when I visit an area and prefer to know something of the tastes and expereince of those doing the reviewing. At the same time, Im aware of the frustration of the rule. With this post Im one step closer to being able to update the information on my home town which is overdue for review. The frustration is a small price to pay for reliable opinion.

                      Best wishes, Russell
