  • Sydney Layover

In about 2 weeks OG and I are of to the land of the Kiwi for a couple of weeks. Due the frigging Rugby World cup we are going to be stuck in Sydney Airport for 6 hours.

Is there decent coffee/tea/eateries in the international airport. Or will I just have to die of boredom.

I was thinking of venturing out to Dennis shop, but am terrified I would get horribly lost as public transport id a nightmare and I am not sure if I could venture that far.

    Hi Lucinda,

Its about 15 minutes by cab (circa $40) to Dennis old shop- which has been sold. He is there on and off and still roasting and selling machines from the site while the new site is being fitted out.

I believe theres a gun barista and they are using Dens World blend.

Lucinda, pm me with the date and time of your arrival and I will do my utmost to meet you at the airport, get you coffee at a place or two, then back to the airport on time (Chris will attest to my ability to do the latter).

I find that places like airports, near Sydney Opera House and Central Railway Station, where they have a continual supply of new customers, they can get away with serving up cups of dish water at high prices and call it coffee.

That was my worry ;D Here in Adelaide we have a Cibo and Hudsons at the Airport who actually make pretty decent coffee. My last brush with Sydney international a few years ago (we usually go via Melbourne) was pretty horrific.

Dennis, your offer is lovely. I just need to find out from virgin whether we have to collect our luggage and take it ourselves to the international terminal as we are transferring to an Air New Zealand flight (frikken World Cup) and will get back to you in a few days. It would be lovely to catch up with you.

We are back. Never caught up with Dennis, but as usual, sydney airport was a nightmare. Coffee was ok, but not of the quality of Adelaide. It was also Noisy with the noise of the loud music, different, coming out of all the shops.

Our flight was delayed by 2 hours so we had 9 hours of misery ;D

I still hate Sydney airport. ;D
