Aunty ABC doing a much better job than Channel 9 did IMHO.
Really enjoying the highlights in particular and the comments from the athletes. Humility and the respect for their fellow competitors makes these guys real role models.

In the gold rush at the Paralympics, we are coming second, with 11 gold medals, behind China with 20 and ahead of GB with 9, Russia 8 and USA 6.
However medals are not everything. There are plenty there happy to do their best and possibly better their personal best.
The main thing for many is that they enjoy themselves and show off their abilities.

The advertising campagin around London over the last couple of weeks probably doesn't hurt the ticket sales, Adding to that the heightened awareness of how awesome the Paralympic games are, Truely it's come a long way from the shadowy days back before 2000 where people considered the Paralympics an 'afterthought'
Now? it's almost more popular then the olympics themselves, if ticket purchases are anything to go by, there's truely gonna be a lot of bums on seats for it.

Spot on Barry. My little brother (who has a disability or whatever people want to call it) was one of the school kids who got to watch the Sydney Paralympics, and he loved it. If the Paralympics aren't sport then neither is anything other than completely open events (i.e. no gender / age restrictions). Good to see.Originally posted by Barry_Duncan View PostI had a spell between coffees this morning as I watched the opening of the Paralympics. What an amazing show.
I had a day at the Paralympics in Sydney 2000. I watched swimming, wheelchair sprints, basketball and wheelchair rugby. It was amazing seeing people competing to the best of their abilities. What an amazing and violent game the wheelchair rugby is. A constant need to right rolled chairs and replace bent wheels.
Some of the most disabled swimmers who came last in their races got the biggest cheers.
It looks like in London it will be a sellout. It was different in Sydney where the school kids were brought in to help fill up the empty stands.
I think that Paralympics are becoming more accepted as real sports, not just physiotherapy.
