  • Apple iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3

Hi guys. My current phone contract expires soon. Which means I have to decide what sort of phone I want. I currently have an iPhone 4, and love it. So logic would say stick with apple and get a iphone 5. But all the reviews say that the s3 is better. So I'm after some opinions on what phones you all have (apple, android, windows), and what you think.

This is how I see it:
    iPhone 5
    Pros:
    • I'm used to the interface
    • iCloud - all my photos sync to my computer
    • iMessage - free texts to fiance and most people I know
    • App store - I believe the apple app store is still more comprehensive than the android market (but I may be wrong)

    Cons:
    • Smaller, oddly shaped screen, its very long for its width
    • I can't program in objective C (can't write my own iphone apps (yet))

    Galaxy s3
    Pros:
    • Bigger screen
    • Better tech
    • More memory - thanks to micro SD card slot
    • I can program in java

    Cons:
    • I don't think I like the interface. It's not as intuitive as the iPhone, but I'm sure I can adapt
    • App store (see iphone pro)
    • Is the screen too big???
    • No iMessage, I know there are free texting apps, but then I need to tell everyone to install that app as well

    Please, give my opinions!

A week ago, I was leaning towards a galaxy, now I'm leaning towards an iphone...

            Galaxy nexus here, love it.

Personally i am allergic to the apple world. I like to be in control not 'our way or the highway'.

Latest Android is very easy to use, my 70yr old rellies adapted no probs, love it.

OK.. Why did Apple change the connector size for the Ip5 ?....
                From the Apple site..
Making iPhone 5 thinner and lighter required a pivotal change: replacing the 30-pin connector with something newer, smaller and better.
New.. sure .of course its new !
better ... remains to be seen. Were there issues with the standard "Apple 30 pin" ? as used on everything else they have made to date ?
Smaller.. Now this is interesting. WHY ? .. the Ip5 is nowhere near the diminutive size if the Ipod nano's that manages OK with the old 30 pin.
So why the change ? ..just to piss off all those Apple users with loads of 30 pin accessories ?..or the aftermarket suppliers who now will have to catch up.

A timely article - it backs up a lot of your perceptions.

As someone who has used Windows Mobile, iOS and Android, I think it is a hard decision. All have their pros and cons and must be up to the individual user. You sound like you are leaning towards the Galaxy David8 but, not convinced you should make the leap to Android.

If developing apps is a major requirement, then I think you will learn to live with the Android quirks. If not, then stick with Apple. Or stick with your current phone and get a new contract - do you really need to upgrade?

I agree. I don't understand why they changed it. But it doesn't affect my decision as either way I'm going to need a new charger.

No, I don't need to upgrade. I want to. Think of it as upgraditis for mobile phones. I was leaning towards the galaxy. Now I'm back with the iphone. App development isn't a major issue. It'd be nice, but not essential. I'm usually never far from my computer anyway. Thank you for the link, it does back up what I said. But I like all the stats. Particularly what the article said about app developments prioritising iphone. I knew it anyway, but it's nice to see the evidence.

I just got the samsung S3 4G. wow what an amazing phone. loving it.

wonderful screen. I can access my phone from a usb connection or even wirelessly.

major upgrade from S2 which is a good phone but sometimes seems a bit slow. this is very fast and the voice recognition works a treat.

I dont understand why people rave about ipoo apps- every app ive needed is also available for android so whats the big deal.

I hate ipoos ( because of itunes & Jobs attitude ) with a passion so cant give a comparison.

                        my 2c.

PS i read the jobs book so believe his attitude is totally embedded in apple so don't hold your breath for any change there in terms of opening up iphones to windows/ flash etc etc etc!
