Welcome! One thing you'll have to get used to is that we Aussies tend to poke fun at each other, which you will probably notice in this thread, amongst others.
Generally it's good natured fun, but sometimes gets a bit raw. Jump right in!

BTW Love my beer, don't touch Fosters. Lately I've tried both Bud and Millers and you guys don't do too bad at beer. One day you'll get it right!
(That's Aussie for, "bloody hell, that's a nice beer")
yeah, that's kinda what I figured, but hey, gotta throw my hat in the ring, right? As for the beer, I wouldn't know, don't touch the stuff myself. Maybe if I'm one here enough I'll get a hang of the local humor, eh, I mean humour, since you folks don't know how to spell!

TimTam Slam: Take preferred cup of coffee and a timtam. Bite tiny top corner off timtam, just enough to expose the biscuit. Go to diagonal opposite corner of timtam, bite corner off. Place one bitten corner in coffee and suck on the other corner. Drink timtam-enriched coffee.

When the timtam begins to collapse in your fingers, eat timtam, lick fingers and reach for another timtam.

Works best with dark choc timtams...
Sounds great, will have to to try this! Don't know if I can get dark chocolate tim tams here though.

I wasn't able to have more than 1 or 2 Buds at a time - found my taste buds craved something more after that, but it's more drinkable on the West Coast than the East. (different breweries perhaps?)

    Well, here goes nothing...
I'm probably gonna get slaughtered here, since I'm not from Australia, and no, I'm not going to say that the rest of the world should live or do like we do here in the USA. I guess I live by " like what/where you have/do/live or find something else". I personally think that people in general have declined in morals and values, and we can't blame anyone else for how our society is, it's up to each person.
I would love to travel to many places around the world to see and experience the "real" (insert county here) whether it's Australia, Italy, Japan, Russia or any other place.
I happen to work with a man from Canberra, at least I think that's where he's from, it's the place with the huge ballon festive that had that huge fish ballon this year, and I love to talk to him and find out how thing are done in Australia, how people live and talk, cause marketing is not real life. For instance, here in the mid '90's, Fosters beer had this huge add campaign about " how to speak Australian", and it was a hoot, but when talking to Brendan, he's like, no, fosters is probably the least common beer there, but, if you've never been there, how do you know??
I will say that Tim Tams are pretty good, and I've found a local source! Vegemite, not so much, probably have to grow up with it.....
Anyway, don't lump all Americans into one pile just cause you can, it's like saying that all Australians drink fosters or carry big knives cause I saw it in a movie
    Merry Christmas too!

Yeah, but only if you team it with the big black droopy mustache in the avatar.
(Bandidos tattooed across your forehead would guarantee a big welcome at the Border.)

Yelta, we will only let you into Central Queensland if you are covered in tatts, wear a flannelly with shorts & thongs and get a 'real' name - like "Bunga" or "Donk" instead of a pussy name like Yelta.

I saw the Hogan shrimp on the barbie ad as very successful, dated now but in its day it worked.
    Come and Say G
Not sure what it had to do with virgin births though?

"I reside in a particularly red neck/bogan region where every second kid is called "Shennae", "Dakoda" or "MavRick" and where 'virgin births' are not unheard of to the local medical fraternity."
Will contemplate a pilgrimage to Warwick Rocky.

Yeah, yeah, I get where you're coming from and I'm not disagreeing with your observation, you're quite right, at one level. However, what I see is that the kids certainly 'go play in that sandpit'.... And as they say, "When in Rome", blah, blah...
There's no doubt they immerse themselves into that culture, amongst others...

BUT, what I also see is that whilst that *is* what they are doing, it does not define 'who they are'...

Well that promo is now 30 years old and pretty much an anachronism.

The Lara Bingle "Where the bloody hell are ya" ad is easily the worst.

I was watching one of my favourite shows recently (Anthony Bordain: No Reservations) where Anthony starts off his food tour of Australia with the comment that the "Shrimp on the Barbie" line has to be one of the worst tourist promotions of all time.
He goes on to party with (among others) Matt Preston (who seems less of a jerk than on that cooking show) and to state that Australian food and preparation is among the very best in the world.

I hope that was in an encrypted email and not on a phone or clear text - Homeland Security will have him if they find out he's not all gungho about being an American...

I think the most telling stat in the OP is how many of them were on chastity pledges - virgin birth is the only way out of THAT situation...
