perhaps we need a pwoty award for the post whore who increases their post count with the most useless posts in a 12 mth period.

Not sure I should agree or disagree in case I incriminate myself

            Re: Quiet Coffeesnobs?

There is a forum that Im on where people try to create the most number of posts. Its a real waste of other peoples time, when they are searching for good information.

The signal-to-noise ratio drops horribly when people are encouraged to post but have nothing helpful to say or great discussion questions.

The sorts of things that I value from a forum are:

            1. Personal opinions (good or bad about a particular product or service)
            2. Learnings or findings or observations
            3. Reviews of new products as well as ongoing commentary about a product after its been used for some time
            4. Pictures or illustrations
            5. Recommendations and reference stories
            6. Good humour
            7. Under moderated or poorly managed forums

The sorts of things that I prefer not to find on a forum:

            1. Personal attacks, e.g. name calling, etc.
            2. Unsubstantiated claims
            3. Off topic responses (except in the Off Topic area)
            4. Hidden agendas

I can probably think of a bunch of other things, but Im glad that I find this forum helpful in my pursuit of becoming a good home barista.

Thats a good list but I think you meant to put #7 in the negatives.

                Yep,

The two forums which I participate in a very well moderated...... and that is essential....

The other forum - Whirlpool- often becomes very passionate and starts to get very personal.... so the mods have to get into it big time. : :

The CS group are far more considerate and rarely (that Ive seen) go over the line..... but sometimes the mods do have to rearrange posts, remove double posts etc.... which they do very well.... and they do a great job at it.

                  Re: Quiet Coffeesnobs?

I am a member of another forum which is an amazing community. We span about 5 countries and have become great friends. We send each other christmas cards, birthday cards and gifts.

It kept me going when I was really ill. Some members are hilariously funny and it gets a bit rude. Not the place for prudes though, some pretty serious topics get discussed too.
