  • australian job offers...

    Hi,

Im currently writing my thesis (last year of studies) and will hopefully graduate this year and so Im slowly looking for a job. I was wondering whether there are a lot of job offers in the AU, mainly looking for something related with automatics, like programmable logic controlers, scada systems, visualizations and stuff like that. I live in Poland and was born here, but would be interested in working abroad. Do you think theres a chance to get a job like that in the AU?

    Cheers,
    dsc.

    dsc,

do you have any preference where you want to work? Are you thinking long term (ie 3+ years) or a shorter stay? Have you worked in the mining industry before?

I think youd have an excellent chance once you have your qualifications safely tucked away. The areas of automation you mention though are, as KS rightly pointed out, mainly found in the Petro-Chem, Mining and Mineral Processing here in Oz, not a lot of manufacturing except for a couple of car manufacturers. Quite a few Engineering Houses around though that do a lot of work both in Australia and overseas, so that might be another option.

Id give it a go if I was you mate, no harm in trying eh? Probably need to contact the Australian Trade Commission closest to where you live and find out what the technicalities involved are and then go for it. All the best mate,

      Mal.

        Hi guys,

Sorry for not responding for such a long time, but I completly forgot about this topic:| silly me I guess.

Frankly I dont have much experience, just some trainings in PLC (Programable Logic Controlers) and SCADA/HMI systems (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition/Human Machine Interface). Ive also programmed a lot (mostly C language) and know a thing or two about PID controlers. Im interested in automated production lines (do you watch How its done on the Discovery channel?) but production robots are also cool. The subject of my thesis is "Inteligent hotel building" and I have to say that field is also something interesting. The best thing for my would be some kind of internship to learn more stuff before I work on smth bigger.

Whats there to do in the mining industry?

        Thanks for the replies mates!

        Cheers,
        dsc.

Its more a question of "What isnt?". Lots of Process Control, SCADA, PID, etc... Basically everything you referred to and more in the Mineral Processing side of the business. Motor Vehicle Manufacturing in Oz also uses Robotic Manufacturing and Assembling, Petro-Chem is another arena full of SCADA, and Process Control. No doubt there are plenty of other manufacturing streams that use a combination or all of the above too, just a matter of focussing on the one that appeals to you most I guess. As I mentioned above, I believe the best thing would be to contact your nearest Australian Trade Commission and then follow the most promising leads that come out of that dialogue. Wish you all the best with this Tom,

            Cheerio,
            Mal.

Submarine Corp. perhaps? Having the experience of that many acronyms in your resume I assume the defense industry would have an opening somewhere.

How about something completely un-related to your field of study? Always good to diversify and experience different career paths.

Like coffee?? Im also interested in scale model building, so I could be of some use in the architectural field I guess.

How about working in smth rail related? My GF is also finishing her studies this year and her specialization is railroads.

                Cheers,
