I think you'll find that it was the 427 and 428 Super Cobra Jet engines that were built on the FE racing block. The 429 was built on the newer, and less performance oriented, 385 block. (my fave uncle was a senior exec with FoMoCo in Canada and the US for decades and I grew up in Ford country)Originally posted by kopigeek View PostThat's too bad Mal,,, would have been awesome to hear that beast fire up on all 8 cylinders. The boss 429 is basically a car built around a NASCAR motor... it would be amazing to go for a spin in one of those.
Gone are the days of watching the race on the weekend and going out to the dealership on Monday to buy the exact same model.
In the flesh I've been in a Boss 302 but never a 429 - Totally different league.

I did get to hear it though...
It fairly roared off down the wharf and on to the road that led out on to the main road. Just beautiful...

By the time it was ready to fire-up and roar off, we had to get back to work and I never saw it again before the ship had loaded and departed. Was a beauty though, candy-apple red that looked about a foot deep. Had its own padded shipping container that I guess doubled as a mobile parking garage when on shore. I was only a young bloke back then and totally amazed by the whole proceedings. One very organised skipper, that bloke...

Nice! Did you get a chance to go for a spin in it or at least sit it in?Originally posted by Dimal View PostYep, me too...
Saw one being unloaded at a wharf in Brisbane in December '69, when I was working during my holiday break to get a bit of extra cash. Belonged to the skipper of the ship who apparently took his precious Boss with him wherever he sailed. Boy, did it both look and sound the goods... Will never forget it...

Happy 50th Birthday to the other love of my life
The holy grail for me has always been the boss 429 but I'll need to sell the house to afford it.Originally posted by Kevo View PostSounds like we're on the same "track" kopigeek. The 69's are the best styled early Mustang IMO and I almost landed a 69 Mach1 a few months ago.
The baby T-Birds are in a class of their own. Been looking at them, but with recently adding a 71 convertible pony to the stable, it ain't gonna happen now.
That's a very, very nice 65! Enjoy.
Cheers

I originally wanted a fastback 67 but the mrs settled on a 65. I didn't have a say[emoji35]
Next project might be a 69 Mach1 or if I get veto power it will be a 57 thunderbird.

I've got to say that I've never been much into classic cars, but seeing the photos in the first post made my heart skip a beat, simply stunning!

I have a 67 302 coupe in Monza Red that I momentarily thought about the (im)possibility of fitting the Strega [emoji16]

Best coincidence ever!
I just had a look over at the flickr friend's 'Stang. Definitely not yours...but I bet you know it. He is also a member here, so forgive my confusion.
