    I'm heading to the US in a few days, my son in law (Living and working in Maryland) has asked me to bring a couple of kg's decent roasted beans with me, so, today is roast day.

    Unsure exactly what I'm going to roast yet, need to check the stash.

    Suffice to say, he has found the stuff that's available in his area way below the standard of what we get here in Oz, hence the request.

    And before someone asks the inevitable question, yes I have checked, there are no restrictions on importation of coffee into the US for personal consumption.

    CS coffee personally roasted by an experienced home-roaster.
    I bet he's champing at the bit...

        SIL is an experienced home roaster, previously lived in Vic and bought green supplies through BeanBay, hence the request.

        Finished up roasting 725 grams each of Indian Elephant hills Monsoon and Rwanda Nygunwe A, arrive in MD next Thurs, so, both should be about ready to drink.

          I've heard that putting some sticky tape over the one-way valve to close it during the flight will help prevent the beans from degassing too quickly (ie: due to lower atmosphere while cruising at 37,000 feet), although I can't say I've ever tested the theory.

          Enjoy the travel and the catch-up!

            My understanding is that baggage holds are pressurised nowadays.

              Take it in as hand luggage , fills the cabin with awesome coffee aroma!!

              Fold the top of the bag over and tape down. I had a bag pop the zip lock, the beans were inside another bag but it took me a while to retrieve the beans!

                Only if freight includes live animals was my understanding, but that was a from a while ago.

                    Thought of you Yelta as I'm coming over to Adelaide on Thursday. I know you're not really near Adelaide, but would have liked to have caught up in person. Seems you'll be nowhere nearby. Ah well. Have a great trip.

                      Morning all.

                      8 am here in Leonardtown Maryland, the coffee made it without problem, sitting here enjoying a double shot made on my SIL's La Pavoni Stradivari using the India Elephant Hills Monsoon, it travelled well and is drinking very nicely.

                      Had excellent espresso at a chain place by the name of Peets in Silicone Valley on the way over, so far the coffee I have experienced in MD hase been rubbish (as I had been forewarned) have been told green beans readily available here so am contemplating setting up a Coretto during my time here.

                      All is good, although the quality of the food is awful, what it lacks in quality it makes up for in quantity

                      Lots happening, will try to stay in touch.
