Doctor at Sydney hospital discovers scurvy resurgence due to poor dietary habits

    Defies belief!

With all of the nutritional information and education available and we hear of people in Sydney with scurvy, thought Captain Cook had it worked out over 200 years ago.

Add that to the people going blind due to vitamin A defiency.

There's probably some impact from nutrient deficient soils but your diet would have to be pretty bad to get scurvy you would think.

Apparently the patient was advised (by someone) to avoid fruit and juice because the fructose would not be good for her diabetes.

        Not an isolated instance.

"Professor Gunton diagnosed her with scurvy on the basis of the blood test and her symptoms, and decided to then test everyone who came to the clinic whose wounds were also not healing.

Around a dozen of them — two thirds of the group tested — had extremely low vitamin C levels and were given the same diagnosis."

Wonder if they were all following the same "advice" to avoid fruit?

I'm not surprised. Apart from all the false dietary information floating around its just so easy to get hooked on junk food and cheap frozen foods bought from supermarkets.
