With the temperatures creeping up close to 40 now, I figured now is as good a time as any to splurge on a couple of litres of golden north honey ice cream. $13.10 for 2L where we are but that first affogato of the build up weather made it worth every cent

Different era BD, back then an ice cream was an occasional treat, now it's pretty much a daily expectation.

    Howdy Yelta,

Yes that's right...Amscol was in Carrington Street...I remember on a couple of occasions going to the factory with my Dad and getting a couple of 4 gallon containers? of the vanilla Ice cream for the occasional party Mum and Dad held...I also remember the dry ice we used to be able to get from them which you placed on top to keep the ice cream frozen.... And it's also correct that Golden North were only available north of Adelaide...I agree they were not as good as Amscol but still nice....And I did like those Eskimo Pies, although oddly enough, It was only rarely I'd have one ....

    Cheers.

I used to think they won in the taste stakes hands down...Similar to streets Blue Ribbon Vanilla, but creamier IMO...

My first taste of Golden North was when I was a young bloke travelling North, past Pt Wakefield somewhere...I was quite impressed...I was even more impressed when they spread out into the Adelaide metro area...

Good to see them doing well...

    Cheers.
Morning BD,I remember Amscol well ”It’s a Food, Not a Fad” they were well before Golden North started selling in Adelaide.
As I recall, in that era Golden North was only available in the Northern area's of SA, it was nowhere near as good as Amscol back then, things have changed.

There was also Alaska Ice Cream , they made the paper/foil wrapped Eskimo Pie Alaska Eskimo Pie | State Library of South Australia always a second cousin to Amscol.

Did not anticipate this topic turning political, it's a good news story and I thought it would be accepted as such.

Guess I was wrong, some people will put a negative bias on anything.

Increasingly SA will have to look at how we can offer premium/niche products, rather than producing for lowest possible cost. We simply won't be able to compete with Indonesia for mass production in the region and likewise the population isn't here so it's tough for SA based companies to overcome the freight advantages the East Coast has to the consumers.
Any producer who relies on electricity to make their products should be looking for escape routes from SA before costs become untenable or supply failure prevents operation and destroys stock.
the current SA state Govmts energy policys are a certain route to more problems in the future.

Was unaware Golden North products were available outside of SA, its always been my preference.

Would be interested to know if others have sighted the brand name elsewhere around OZ.
