They somehow managed to lose an order of mine that had already been logged as delivered to the distribution centre where my PO Box resides. Only had to travel from out the back to front of house! Deemed as "lost in transit". Really...!

I'm in the middle of an Australia post missing parcel saga right now.

Ordered a small item from a seller in the Hunter Valley, posted on the 21st Nov, still not received, tracking info tells me its delayed, guess that's code for lost/pilfered, a trace has been instigated, still nothing.

The seller has been good enough to send a replacement, guess I'll be lucky if I see it before Christmas.

I once had a parcel coming from country Victoria. I watched it on the tracking go from LPO to VIC distribution centre to the main distribution centre in Sydney (Chullora, about a 30min drive from my house) only to then see it sit there for a few days before going back to Melbourne and then come back to Sydney and eventually to me. Took over 2 weeks all up.

I know all about that issue and eventually what the cause was.

We had many parcels go from Geelong to Sunshine to Chullora to Sunshine to Chullora.... you get the idea.

Melbourne (Sunshine) installed a new parcel sorter, fully automatic, shoots cartons all over the impressive new facility on a conveyor then they exit to the correct destination cages, get loaded on a truck and shipped off.

Sydney (Chullora) thought this was indeed impressive and installed the same system, but somehow ended with slightly different software.

Packages were read and sorted in Melbourne okay, shipped to Sydney who read the return address and shipped it back.

BeanBay stickers that have been exactly the same for 10 years prior with a tiny "where's my glasses" return address top right and a big fat "I can read across the room" destination address needed to be changed.

The change? Put the word "sender:" in front of the return address instead of the word "return to:"

...and no, apparently even though Melbourne worked fine, the Sydney machine would not be reconfigured and I assume it will still do it 12 months on.

They probably made the one person who knew how to reconfigure the software redundant
They might be back in the new year as a contractor at 3x the cost.

You know I don't think I've ever had a bad experience with Aus Post, and I've ordered alot of stuff! Have all been delivered really well and in good time. Can't off the top of my head think of any time that was subpar...

                Must be lucky

                  Hi simonsk8r,
I must have inadvertently broke a mirror or walked under a ladder or neglected to touch wood after tempting fate. My experience with AusPost hasn't been as harmonious as yours, to wit:
*Parcel delivered to wrong street (right number).
*Having to pick up parcels from local PO despite being home at time of 'delivery'.
*Parcel (unbeknown to me) sitting at the local PO for over a month before being informed of its existence (had to pick that one up too).
*Letters and small parcels hanging out of the letter box, open to the elements and opportunistic thieves, because it's too much trouble to push it all the way into my cavernous letterbox.

It seems, the price of postage has become inversely proportional to the quality of service being provided - at least it has in my little corner of Ballarat.

Ah right wow, fair enough! I think once I've had a parcel slip left behind even though I was home, but overall pretty good. I'd say it's very dependent on the individual postal worker, but unfortunate about the bad experience with them.

Some years ago we had Aus Post claim to have delivered a parcel at a time when we were both home all day. Although small enough to be delivered by the postie rather than a van, it would not fit through the letterbox slot, and was not to be found on our front verandah which (where we lived then) was 35 metres from the quiet avenue in a country town.

After we explained it had definitely not been delivered, despite their record, Aus Post told us that the correct procedure now was to notify the overseas sender who would raise an international trace through their postal service to Aus Post. This was done. We heard back from the seller. Their postal service had contacted Aus Post who checked their records and replied "Oh, we delivered that." !!

We wrote it off, and obtained a Parcel Collect service so that parcels would be held at the local post office. That proved completely reliable until we moved house, about which another post...

                        First world problems, eh.
But for the grace of good fortune I could be sitting in a grass hut, somewhere in Africa, wondering where my next meal was coming from.

After moving, I obtained a Parcel Collect service at the local Aus Post outlet which in other respects was a small supermarket. When the first couple of things came through they seemed unfamiliar with the Parcel Collect concept. Then, I bought some specialised tools for somewhere $200-$300 from the eastern part of the EU, via ebay. After nearly three months and repeated back-and-forth the seller refunded me for non-delivery, and claimed from his postal service on insurance. This galvanised their tracing efforts. Soon, they were back to say that the item had been delivered to the collection point a month prior (a mere two months after it was sent). Yet again I returned to the Aus Post outlet to ask them to search again. They were getting a bit exasperated with me by then, my repeated requests for them to check everywhere.

While they were looking, I pointed, as I had before, to a large-ish parcel on the floor, asking if that were it, despite it clearly being labelled "Michael" (not my name) in black texta. It had been there for weeks. They said no, it was for Michael. I leaned right over the counter intrusively, and discerned some numbers which looked very like the numbers in my Aus Post number, and asked them to pick it up. They did. It was mine. I took it home and paid the seller once again (he wrote off the freight for my trouble).

Michael? It was an anglicisation of the sender's first name, wrongly written on it by the locals so they could recognise it quickly, and never to be mine until I shoved their noses into the real label. I changed my parcel collection to a real post office a little further away and have had no problems since (although pending a small parcel from Italy).

You are right. The entire Coffee Snobs forum should shut down at once.
