Looked after and rode an original Goldwing for a mate many years ago. Talk about smooth...
Could practically put it top gear and ride away without needing any gear changes, up or down.
Not my kind of bike though...

Trouble is, a lot of Harleys now have straight cut pipes with no muffler.
As Mal said, it’s mostly up to the rider how loud their bikes sound (and cars as well).
Sitting at a red light blipping the throttle and accelerating away hard makes it much louder than necessary.
In their defence, I have seen, just a few, Harley riders taking it easy and it makes all the difference to public perception.
Besides, loud doesn’t equal fast. An 1800 Goldwing can pretty much leave a Harley for dead.
Not sure if you could say the same about this “car” below. The driver looks.......interesting

Think you might be in the minority Rocky...
Never rode my Dukes without mufflers.
The Contis weren't overly loud but they let any Italian Motorcycle cognoscenti in the neighbourhood know that you were around. None of our neighbours thought it was over the top but then I never accelerated hard out of the driveway either. In fact, my extended family and immediate neighbours loved the look and sound of the Dukes I owned, including our local Coppers.
Never owned a Harley and have never desired one but don't mind the healthy growl of a few of them coming down the road either.

But only to the rider. Everyone else has their fingers in their ears.
Harleys without mufflers are the bane of suburban existence.

Kudos to all Kawasaki owners (my brother included), but I'd take the Duke over the Kwaka every time....

The H2R is just nuts!!
Many cars that were normal pricing not that long ago have gone through the roof recently too.
Cheers

Wow, those prices! Still, put it in perspective, you'd pay more than that for a decent 2nd hand RV
Brings back memories of some scary moments riding pillion on my mad mates 900SS. We were invincible in those days of course....
