  • Crossing the continent by bicycle to make asbestos related disease history

    Hi everyone

When I mentioned this to Andy a while back he suggested posting something here in case people were interested.

In a few hours I’ll leave Perth on my bicycle with 23 other hardy souls as we race across Australia in the Indian Pacific Wheel Race. 5500km self supported through Adelaide, Melbourne Canberra and Sydney.

    I have a website if you’re interested - www.thebikepacker.org

which has links to my Instagram page which I’ll be updating throughout the race, the dot watchers page wheee you can watch each of the riders live progress as we all carry GPS trackers and a link to the mycause page which has details about the fundraising I’m doing and the reasons for it (my personal link to the notorious Mr. Fluffy asbestos insulation in Canberra).

    All the best
Justin aka Juzzy Wuzzy on the race dot watchers page

In the early 1990s I was trucking across the Nullarbor when the news broke about a multiple fatality on the Eyre Highway. Seems an eastbound semi topped a rise to be confronted by an oncoming truck and a bunch of cyclists and support vehicles on his side of the road. Two narrow lanes and no bike tracks would suggest that you can't be too careful.

Ps besides trucks, terrorists (caravaning tourists) and roos, expect a veritable parade of loners riding, pedalling, pushing or backpacking their way across the continent. Their motivation for the crossing can only be guessed at.
